Description: G'len and Ylisahn chat about the restday and the Tavern.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 14 of Turn 4
The Dolphin Cove Weyr Headwoman was sitting at one of the tables in the dining cavern, enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the restday that she intended to be exactly that - a day of rest. She was leaning back in her chair, her long legs stretched out under the table, a still-warm mug in her hand and a book open in front of her.
She really had to see the healers about needing to be so far away from what she wanted to read these days, though it was convenient for reading at the table. She turned the page and peered into her mug, sighing as her worst fears were confirmed.
She was out of klah.
"Why so glum? Are the Candidates getting themselves into trouble again?" G'len asked, a big smile on his face. He took a seat across from her, not waiting for her reply before taking a big bite from the pile of food on his plate.
"No, no." She grinned at him, putting her marker in the book and closing it. "We managed to get all the troublemakers Impressed last time around. Didn't you notice?" she asked, for the greenrider was the Weyrlingmaster Third.
"I'm sure new ones will emerge this time around. They seem to appear from /between/, just to make my life more interesting." G'len sighed dramatically. "I love them all though; even the worst of the troublemakers."
"Really? You're a better person than me, then." Some of the difficult Candidates went on to become difficult weyrlings and then riders puffed full of their own importance and with their new status created problems for the lower caverns workers. Ylisahn occasionally wished that hatchlings were better judges of characters but she suspected they only wanted to find a suitable lifemate; not the best and most noble among the suitable ones available.
She waved the subject away with the empty klah mug that she still held. "Let's forget the lot of them. What are you doing for your restday?"
"Probably heading over to the Tavern at the Vintner Hall. Have I dragged you there yet?" He had slowly been getting all of his friends to go with him, although with the time change, he didn't usually go when it was night there.
"No, but if Tobereth could fit both Wirril and I we'd love to come and see it some time." She didn't think G'len had any objection to her weyrmate though they knew each other only in passing.
"That sounds like a plan! And, unless you want the children to come too, Tobereth can carry three. Although, I wouldn't mind finding a cute bluerider to bring along..." he suggested with a grin.
"Our children are old enough to find their own 'rider friends when they want to go somewhere," Ylisahn said with a chuckle. "They haven't mentioned the Tavern, I'll admit, but then I suppose there's a few things they don't mention to their mothers these days."
"Then, it'll just be the three of us," G'len said, with a wave of dismissal for the others. "We'll have a great time."
"It sounds like we will. You just let me know when it's convenient for you and Tobereth and Wirril and I will be ready."
"All right. Expect a knock on your door on a restday soon, definitely before the next Hatching."
"Don't mention the Hatching," Ylisahn said with a groan.
G'len giggled. "All the more reason to go to the Tavern for a drink, or three." Then, more seriously, "Do you happen to know any Vintners, dragonriders or not?" As Headwoman, perhaps she was privy to information that would be useful to him.
"Not off the top of my head, though I could look up my records. Is it important?"
"Vitally! It could determine whether Turns End is one of the best days of my life, or if I spend it moping in my weyr with no one but Tobereth to comfort me." G'len grinned. "I might be exaggerating a bit. But, if that kind of information isn't confidential, it would be very useful. I need a date, and this person needs to be a vintner; a dragonrider who apprenticed to the craft Turns ago would be fine. If I don't find anyone, they won't let me into the Tavern for their Turns End celebration."
"Ohhh, like that, is it?" Ylisahn grinned. "No, that sort of information's not confidential, though I don't expect you to make a nuisance of yourself when you have the list."
"Well, that will be up to the vintners to decide. Maybe some of them won't appreciate me inviting myself to their party. However," he placed a hand over his heart, "I promise to be my wonderfully charming self. I'll have to be, if I want to get a date."
"There's that, of course. All right. I'll make that list up for you tomorrow. Catch me at the evening meal, if you like."
"I'll look forward to it. And, don't even think about it until tomorrow. Restdays are for resting."
"I completely agree," the Headwoman said. "So no more talk of work tomorrow. Just waved down somebody for some more klah and let's 'rest'."
