Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 11, day 19 of Turn 4
"Morning Master Leisenn, do you have a minute?" Trellyn asked as she leaned against the open door frame.
"Of course. Come in Trellyn. Take a seat."
"I'm sure you've heard my gold firelizard Carry laid her clutch." Trellyn started, then became a bit unsure if it was big enough news to travel up the gossip chain.
"I heard a rumor," Leisenn admitted with a smile. "The kitchen staff are very proud to have the eggs - and the firelizard - cluttering up their space. They showed them off to me, in fact."
Trellyn nodded, aware that they were quite the attraction at the moment. "They can be passed out at any time, I was wondering how you'd like to distribute them."
The older woman's expression was thoughtful. "What arrangement did you have with Master Mosler about them?"
"I kept a few that I could pass out or sell and the rest went to him." It wasn't really an arrangement Mosler had set up, he'd just left it going from the previous Hallmaster and maybe the Hallmaster before her as well. Trellyn didn't know for sure as she'd only had Carry for a couple of turns. "I know he would often ask the traveling or shipbound journeymen if they wanted one... I don't know what he did with the rest."
"Hmm. Are you able to find good homes for them? or sell all the ones you're left with? My main concern is not to overrun the Hall with the creatures, charming as they are."
"Only one of the eggs from the last clutch Carry had here stayed in the Hall." Trellyn said a bit defensively, "I really only have one person who wants one this time as well, though I'd like to keep at least one more to trade to the vendors at the Weyr."
"As long as you can find places for them - and they don't end up with the apprentices." Leisenn didn't think apprentices needed any more distractions from their study than were absolutely necessary, and a firelizard would certainly provide that. "I don't have any particular use for eggs at the moment, nobody in mind. May I let you know if that changes for the next clutch?"
It took Trellyn a moment to understand her statement, it was completely different then what she was expecting and it threw her off. "Um, yes of course, I'll be sure to inform you when she rises again. But um, I sort of already told one of the senior apprentices he could have one of the eggs."
"You did? How 'senior' is this senior apprentice?" They could vary in age from fifteen or so to those that would never make the jump to journeyman.
"It's Ednan, um he's tall with red hair..." She tried to describe him to the new Hallmaster without sounding too interested. "He's nineteen, soon to walk the tables I believe. He's been very helpful in oiling and feeding Carry, ever since she was hatched. I just wanted to give him one before he did walk and then got posted away."
"Ahh. Well, just the one exception since he's so senior and likely to have enough sense to not neglect his studies. But no more apprentices," Leisenn said firmly.
Trellyn sighed in relief, she'd been so afraid of disappointing Ednan, "Agreed, no problem."
"I think that's settled, then. Good luck with the eggs."
