Description: Dysali finally brings her new canine to meet D'ren, but it doesn't go as well as she hoped.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 1 of Turn 4
Dysali watched Wags running about her feet on the beach, then looked up at the waves once more.
It had been a month and since Wags had come to live with her. Not quite a month since I'ster died. She had tried all last month to get D'ren out of hiding. But nothing at worked. Maybe it was time... She sighed a bit can called the canine to her.
With everything happening since I'ster's death, Dysali had never really introduced Wags to D'ren. She had wanted to train him a little first, and had had to seek out help from I'lan to do so correctly. There had been Thread again, and there would be Thread again in three days.
But now, the young canine was behaving - for the most part - and seemed fit enough for company and travels.
Of course, she hadn't spoken to D'ren very much over the last few sevendays. She was angry; he was angry or whatever he was, and they were both grieving. Brief messages through their dragons and some visiting... she had seen him some .. but thats all.
Perhaps now Wags would help her get through to him.. or not...
**Lillyth, are Menanth and D'ren in their weyr? I would like to take Wags to meet them.**
Menanth lifted his head when the green asked if he was home. }:Yes, we are both here. D'ren is mending straps.:{ His rider's thoughts kept drifting into unpleasant things. Maybe this time Lillyth's could cheer him up.
Lillyth relayed the message and the feeling, but Dysali was not completely sure she had it in her to cheer up D'ren. Would he even want to see her?
She hooked Wags to his leather lead and considered for a moment. **Lillyth, if I carry Wags on you, will it bother you?**
She snorted in response. Her rider was silly to ask; the canine did not bother her living with her. Why would she care if she carried him?
Shaking her head, she tugged the canine closer to her and scooped him up. He wasn't even as heavy as firestone sacks, yet. But he would be, the beastcrafters said.
Nervous as a feline, she slid onto Lillyth's back, and the two of them - and one canine - headed toward D'ren and Menanth's weyr, landing a short time later on the ledge.
She set Wags on the ground, and hooked him to the straps on Lillyth and told her dragon to be careful with him, and then went looking for D'ren. She'd introduce him slowly to her new 'pet'.
D'ren looked up from his straps, surprised. "Oh. Hi. Menanth didn't say you were coming."
}:I didn't want you to say no,:{ the bronze said. D'ren frowned a little at the response.
Her steps froze in place for a moment at his reaction. Well, what had she expected? A smile and a big hug? Stupid girl. "Hi." She paused again, uncertain. "Is it alright if we are here? We can come back later if you like." A simple, if hesitant, smile crossed her face briefly.
"No, it's okay." He set the riding straps aside. "I was frowning at Menanth."
She chuckled softly, and moved closer to him. "I'm sure that works as well as it always does with our lifemates, hmm?"
"Sometimes it's annoying to have someone know you so well. But I wouldn't trade him for the world." He sent love across their bond and Menanth echoed it.
Dysali nodded in an echo of the truth of that statement. She was quiet for a moment, in respect to that bond. Finally, she smiled a bit wider and nodded toward the ledge.
"I've something to show you, if you have time?"
Did she bring him a gift? "Ok."
No gift. Or at least, not really. She tugged on his hand and dragged him with her to the ledge. As soon as Wags saw her, his tail thumped heavily against Lillyth's side. "Him!" She pointed excitedly, and then went to release the canine.
"You got a canine?" Why had she brought it here, though? It would have been much easier to call him to her weyr. Maybe she was worried he wouldn't come.
"Well... I sort of took him from B'vin... he didn't want him and D'cal was there and said I'd like him and B'vin didn't want anything to do with him and he's so cute!" She babbled like a brook, as usual, and yes, she had been afraid he wouldn't come.
"I wanted you to meet him." She finally finished in a rush.
"Oh. Hello there, little canine," he said.
Wags was beyond happy to have someone speak to him. He raced from Lillyth's side to D'ren with the speed of a startled wherry and leaped right on him, front feet planting solidly.
"Oh!! Wags! No! Down!" Dysali was yelling, but it was too late.
D'ren patted the puppy's head a few times. The canine kept jumping and D'ren took a few steps away. The canine followed, jumping even worse. "I said hello already. Go back to Dysali."
Wags didn't appear to immediately listen, though he did stop jumping. He stayed close to D'ren's knee, leaning, right in the way. Dysali swore softly and went to catch him, attaching the lead to his collar. "Come on Wags, if you can't behave, you have to be tied up!"
"Do you think you'll have time to train him, with all your duties?" D'ren asked.
Turning back to D'ren, she studied him for a moment. They were almost like people who hardly knew each other. Or so it seemed to her right this moment. She finally nodded with a faint smile, "Lots of riders have pets, and I asked I'lan for help. I think he's going to help me learn how to train him. I thought...." She paused, then went on uncertainly, "..I thought he might cheer us both up."
D'ren looked at the puppy, then back at Dysali. "Maybe he'll be good for you."
"I thought he would be good for both of us.." She looked up at him, her eyes questioning. "If there is still an 'us'."
"There is," he said without thinking.
She hoped he meant it. She looked at him a big longer. "I don't want to lose you, D'ren." Her voice was quiet and she moved closer to him, hesitantly slipping her arms around him. "Could I come back... in a few candlemarks?" An apologetic grin curved her lips. "Without Wags."
His smile wasn't wide, but it was real. "Yes."
