Balthan noticed the abrupt shadow and looked up as the bulk of the dragon crossed over. He never liked how they came so unannounced, but it was better than not coming at all and being left defenseless during Fall he supposed. Then he saw hie niece jump up and run off towards the dragon. "There she goes again." he grumbled, more to himself than anyone in particular though he knew his brother and probably Serend could hear him.
"Hm." Balisor watched his daughter fly over to the dragonrider who had, once again, come visiting. He straightened, arms crossing over his chest and mulling over the scene. Perhaps he should have a talk with his daughter. After all, it wouldn't do to be spending time with a dragonrider if she was to be fostered...and soon married. "Yes. There she goes again."
Karai watched the girl disappear out of view and pursed her lips in disapproval. It wasn't very ladylike and neither Balthan or Balisor seemed to approve. "Does Sorsha go to meet the dragons every time they land?"
"Only this one." Balthan grunted. He'd managed to arrange a fostering with Serend for one of his sons as well. If Sorsha disgraced the family in front of Serend, he was likely to cancel the fostering for _both_ of them.
"I'll have a talk with her." Balisor glanced over at Serend's wife, wishing his daughter wasn't so enamored with the rider. "He helped her when she was in trouble, that's all."
She heard a grunt from Balthan and tried to keep a bland face as she asked, "What sort of trouble was she in?" Serend had told her the girl had been Searched and returned home after failing to Impress. She knew what sort of 'trouble' girls got in to at the Weyrs and if Sorsha was that kind she didn't want her anywhere near her Railen.
"She had fallen on some rocks and hurt her ankle." Balisor explained, crossing his arms over his chest. "It was a Threadfall day and had she not been injured, she would have returned in plenty of time. Unfortunately, she was injured. Fortunately, he was able to bring her home safely. I have her promise that she will stick close to home on Threadfall days from now on."
Karai kept her eye on Balthan to see if he disagreed with Balisor's retelling, but his face was blank as he looked into the beach fire. "She must have been so scared the poor thing. That dragonrider must be very tolerant to put up with her excessive displays of gratitude."
Balthan and Balisor both flinched at that. She made brief eye contact with her husband and saw that he had witnessed it as well.
"Yes, well, he won't be visiting when she goes with you." Balisor would definitely have a talk with his daughter.
Balthan doubted that distance would put off a dragonrider, but he kept his mouth shut. Once his son got over to Willet Grove, if Sorsha disgraced herself, well, that was Balisor's business, his son would surely prove his worth to stay. He saw Sorsha come into view again with that dragonrider by her side. He hoped it would be a quick exchange, the sooner he was out of sight the sooner out of mind as well.
