Description: Zelle just barely gets moved into her new weyr when Rillith rises and J'darin's and K'hetah's lifemates chase.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 1 of Turn 4
"Thank Faranth." Zelle tossed the last bag of her things to the side, then went to her lifemate to relieve the dragon of her straps.
}:I'm tired.:{ The tone of Rillith's mind voice was sharp, sharper than normal. However, it was not abnormal considering that she was proddy.
**Do you want to go to the lake?** Zelle suggested, sliding the straps and carefully putting them away.
}:Yes.:{ The green snorted, a sound that almost sounded like a grumble, turned, and winged her way from the ledge over to the lake and perched herself on a rock before sliding down into the water.
Zelle shook her head and opened the first of several bags. To be honest, she would have had several bags less, except that she had also brought some of the things that she had taken when they had cleaned out L'den's weyr. The thought made Zelle pause and tears sting the back of her eyes. She shook her head, and rummaged through the first bag, that mostly of clothes and started putting her things away.
She had gotten about halfway through the bags when it hit her.
Rillith was no longer just proddy, she was rising. Zelle tossed what was in her hands upon her bed and ran out of her weyr and through the hallways. Rillith had already managed to snatch a herdbeast and was draining it by the time Zelle got to the mating cot. There were already a couple of dragonriders approaching - two blueriders and a brown. Zelle ignored them, turning her attention to her green who was greedily downing the salty essence of the beast.
J'darin thought he might go and welcome Zelle a bit later today, though for now stacks of hides were teetering precariously on his desk and all needed his attention. It almost seemed as if he'd done none of that work for days. He sighed and started to read the first report.
}:Come! She is Rising!:{ Hasaarth sent a few moments later.
J'darin was dumbfounded for the space of several heartbeats. He didn't quite understand. **Rising? Who? What?**
}:It is the messenger's green. She arrived earlier but now flies! You must come NOW!:{ Lust was beginning to roll over his dragon and starting to creep into J'darin's mind.
Blinking, but unwilling to deny Hasaarth this chance - he hadn't chased much of late - J'darin tumbled out of his office and raced down into the weyrbowl for the feeding grounds, blue eyes already searching out Zelle in the crowd of riders. Hasaarth joined the other dragons all eagerly awaiting the green.
"Funny time to move Weyrs," K'hetah commented mildly from just behind Zelle, speaking over her shoulder as he watched the green. "Right when she's ready to rise. But then you do know how to make the best of impressions."
Zelle turned around, her gaze falling upon K'hetah. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but it was then that Rillith tossed aside the carcass and launched into the air. Whatever words were going to be said remained unspoken as the flight took over.
Rillith swung from side to side for a moment, then darted off to the left, narrowly escaping the clutches of a brown that had come to chase. In the sky, the flash of green mingled with brown, blue, and two bronzes who had decided that this one was worth chasing.
K'hetah knew very well why Loeth was chasing Rillith when he had shown no interest in other mating flights at Dolphin Cove: This was _his_
green. From his home. He was _entitled_. The bronzerider grinned at the thought. Loeth was in for a surprise.
J'darin wasn't so sure why Hasaarth had decided to chase the green.
Perhaps all those visits had ...His thought process broke off somewhat as Rillith launched herself with Hasaarth following after, next to another familiar bronze shape. Loeth.
Hasaarth snarled and snapped at Loeth. This was _his_ Weyr and this one had chosen to make her home _here_ now. She was his! Wings beating, he focused on the green as J'darin and the other riders turned their focus to Zelle. What a welcome to her new home!
K'hetah was a little surprised to find the Weyrleader among the men gathered around Zelle. He would have thought Hasaarth would have ...
He winced at the blistering response from Loeth at the very thought of the other bronze.
A sound burst forth from Rillith and if one had an imagination, one could swear that it was the sound of draconic laughter. Whatever it was, it lasted for only a moment. The green darted straight up, trying to put some distance between her and the other dragons.
Mating flights; K'hetah sighed. Always the same, always different.
Loeth ignored his rider's musings and concentrated on the rising green.
J'darin paid no heed to what was happening about him. Only Zelle, and Hasaarth. Hasaarth was focused completely on Rillith now and he was one with his dragon. His bronze did like to chase greens. He said it was interesting. When Rillith arrowed straight up, Hasaarth went right after her.
Rillith was a green air, shooting straight up into the sky. A blue roared, then dropped out of the race while a brown pulled forward, drawing closer and closer. Suddenly, the green shot to the right and the brown, in an attempt to follow her, found himself tangled with another blue.
Hasaarth dodged the tangled dragons and chose a slightly different course to try to cut her off as she flew quickly away from the pack.
Loeth and K'hetah pursued, dodged, wove, and regarded their competitor with disfavour. Either the man or the dragon reasoned that Hasaarth had a gold mate so there was no reason for him to chase _this_ green.
Hasaarth cared little for anything but the green darting away from him. He liked to chase greens, though he had not chased very many since Nyith had chosen him. He did still chase _some_.
J'darin/Hasaarth bent their wills together at that moment just as Rillith turned on a wingtip, straining to follow.
Rillith turned three times, twisted, fell, and then twisted again. She pulled up, barely slipping through Loeth's grasp only to run smack dab into Hasaarth. She gave a cry of surprise and her rider echoed it on the ground, falling into the weyrleader's arms, her lips feverish against his.
Loeth wheeled on wingtip - a ridiculous behaviour for a dragon his size and spiralled groundward. He would fly back to the bay by the Weyr and paddle in the tropically warm waters. His rider could find his own transport for a while.
A little surprised in the part of his mind that was still functioning, but burning with the feverish need to claim his/their prize, J'darin fell together with Zelle on a nearby cot. As Hasaarth and Rillith joined together above, their riders did below.
