Description: Zelle goes to K'hetah to try and explain the situation in which he found her and J'darin.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 21 of Turn 4
There he was, just as Loeth had said as Rillith passed on the information. Zelle stepped a ways away, watching him watch his dragon.
She reached up to brush some hair out of her face, but the breeze just blew it right back in her eyes. Finally, she eased her way down the beach to where K'hetah sat, perched upon a rock. "Hey." Her voice was soft as was the smile she offered him.
"Though you would have had enough of rocks after the last incident,"
the bronzerider commented idly by way of greeting.
"Well, I guess I'm taking my chances." Zelle moved a little closer and chose a rock for herself, easing down on it. "So...how are you?"
"Fine. Warm, shaded," he reached up to touch the large brimmed hat woven from the leaves of local plants, "full of a very nice midday meal. How are you?"
"Fine." Zelle's gaze moved to the sea, the waves, the dragon playing in the waves, then back to the bronzerider. "Look, K'hetah, about what happened with J'darin..."
The bronzerider tipped his head back and eyed the visiting greenrider.
"Do I really need to hear this?"
"Nothing happened." The greenrider quipped. "Other than drinking a little too much wine. We weren't intimate or anything."
"Is it any of my business if you were?"
Zelle opened her mouth, then shut it and stood, her face hardening. Of course, why would it matter to him? It never had before, so what would be different now? "No. I guess not. I guess I didn't really need to explain anything to you after. Well, then I'll just be on my way."
"Now why are you upset and rushing off? It's a rest day. Sit down and cook your backside on a rock. Enjoy the day."
The greenrider crossed her arms over her chest, peering down at her former wingleader. "Geeze, K'hetah, you are impossible, you know that?"
"Me? Impossible? Surely not. Nobody has ever said that before."
After a moment he had to admit, more honestly, "Well, one person, but that hardly counts."
"Well this makes two, so it counts." Zelle reached up to rub her eyes and heave a sigh. She had thought by the way he had reacted...but of course, even then she knew it was hard to say. She wondered if he even _got_ it but...no, probably not. He was a man. Very dense. "I should go. I'm sure you have better things to do than to chat to me."
"Actually, I have nothing better to do than to chat to you. Didn't you just find me sitting on the beach watching my dragon soak himself silly?"
Zelle opened her mouth and closed it a couple of times. He had to be dense. Just had to be. After a moment, she plopped down on the rock beside him, nudging him over. "Don't take up all the space, fat butt."
"Me?" He laughed and nudged her with his shoulder. "You should look at your own backside." He put an arm around her shoulders and hugged her close. "I miss having you around, you know."
"Really?" Zelle snorted in disbelief. "Are you sure about that?"
"About your backside or about missing you?"
"About missing me." Zelle jabbed the bronzerider in his ribs.
"Yeah. I'm sure about that. Only ..."
"Only what?" Zelle prodded gently.
The bronzerider grinned. "Only you spend so much time here I hardly get time to miss you."
"Wellllll..." Zelle tilted her head, a smirk dancing across her expression. "You'll have even less time to miss me. I'm transferring here."
"Really?" The Cyclone Wingleader leaned back so that he could see Zelle's face but there was no indication that she was teasing. "Well ... Well, that'll be nice."
"There's nothing keeping me back there now, and evidently they need some more search dragons." Inwardly, Zelle sighed. Nice. Yes, very nice, sure.
"Is this the Weyrleader's idea?"
"No." Zelle shook her head. "I want to. He just gave me the reason.
I have nothing keeping me there, like I said, and I have two good friends here." She offered K'hetah a small smile.
"Ahh. Well, if you're going to be say such nice things about me, then I suppose you can come down here." He lifted his free hand to his hat to move it on to her head. "You'll need a good hat, though. This sun can be a bit fierce."
"I'm sure I can manage." Zelle stated with a laugh. "So...what are you going to do for the rest of the day?"
"Though I might do some hidework this afternoon. Sound like something you'd like to help with?"
"I wouldn't mind helping you." Zelle agreed with a smile.
"Good." He looked out at the clear tropically blue water and then back at his companion. "Shall we swim first?"
Zelle stood and began to back away toward the sea. "Bet you I can swim out further than you can."
"I bet you can drown better, too," K'hetah said, thinking of her accident on the rocks. Zelle didn't seem to live a very charmed life.
He resisted the temptation to chase her to the water's edge. The last thing he needed was to be even peripherally to blame for another accident befalling her. "Go on, though. I'll paddle along in your wake."
"Just you wait and see, hm? If I start to drown, surely you'll come to my rescue!" Zelle laughed, pulling her tunic over her head and then hopping out of her trousers.
"Story of my life," the bronzerider muttered, shedding his shirt and shorts and following her into the water.
