N'mor smoothed down his tunic. He had changed to something bit better than his normal outfit for this meeting with the Weyrleader. For some reason, he could heard his mother voice, saying: Please, Naemor, try to look like Master crafter's son and not like some holdless beggar.
It was memory actually, and made him instincly glance his boots. They were clean, no dragging in mud to the Weyrleader's weyr. He chuckled. It must be nerves, he decided. He was wondering if he was making mistake when he knocked the door.
A little unsurprised to have been asked to meet with N'mor, J'darin called out, "Come." when then knock came. He wasn't sure what the young bronzerider might want, but had had a vague idea.
"Sir. Thank you for meeting me," N'mor said when he entered.
J'darin nodded. "Have a seat, young man. What is it you wanted to discuss with me? Something to do with your upcoming graduation, no doubt."
N'mor practically fell into the chair. "Yes sir. I've been thinking what happens after the graduation. Could it be possible for me to return to Dragonsfall Weyr?"
J'darin's face smoothed down into a frown. "You've not even graduated yet and you're already wanting to return to Dragonsfall? Lad, I thought you understood when you came here - this was not just a temporary change."
"Emh," N'mor grunted uneasily. Now that he thought back, it had been told him before he transferred to the Dolphin Cove weyr. There was faint popping sound and N'mor firelizard, Ember, appeared. Tuned to his human's mood, he hissed protectively to the Weyrleader.
Oak had been watching from J'darin's chair as he always did, but at the appearance of the other, he rose to a half crouch. The brown flit was not fond of other fire lizards near his person.
J'darin ignored their antics with the ease of long practice. His frown deepened, though. "Lad, do you not think you should be able to control your fire lizard a bit better than to have him hissing at your Weyrleader?"
It didn't bother him, but it was a sign of the boys emotional state.
He was truly upset.
In his mind, he soothed Oak, who began to settle again, but kept wary, whirling eyes on the intruder.
"Sorry, sir," N'mor said and frowned at the Ember. **Calm down, everything is fine,** he sent for the firelizard with calming tones. He patted his shoulder and he landed on it, rusting wings a while but finally settling in.
J'darin nodded briefly, then steepled his fingers as he looked over the young bronzerider in front of him. "Are you unhappy here, N'mor?"
"I..." N'mor hesitated between honesty and saying something diplomatic.
His father had always believed in honesty even it hurt.
"...I've never really felt home here," he admitted.
J'darin nodded. "Well, you've not been here all that long. Barely a sevenday before the Hatching, and then busy with weyrling training since. Give it some time, hmm? Bronzeriders are still a bit rare at my Weyr and I cannot let you go back to Dragonsfall with our bronze. And you may visit there, anytime when you are free from other duties. But I also wish you to be happy here. Is there something I can do for you to help?"
N'mor fell downwards on the chair. "Tell some people that I didn't _steal_ their bronze," he murmured with a voice barely above whisper.
"Thats foolishness, N'mor. If you had not been here, that _bronze_
dragonet would have most likely died!" He almost snarled it out. Too> many had died already. "You raise your head, bronzerider. You belong to Dolphin Cove, you and your dragon both. This is _your_ home too. You'll do well."
N'mor looked him and nodded. He just couldn't imagine impressing any other dragon than Kedvencth.
}: We belong together :{ Ked confirmed.
"Just remember that when they talk. You'll find that the talk will die off soon enough. Start trying to make this place your home, instead of longing for another Weyr, and perhaps it will help. Come to me any time you need anything, alright, N'mor? I do wish I could grant you a transfer, but you belong here now. You and Kedvencth both." And frankly, he _needed_ them.
"Right. Thank you for your time, sir. I'm sorry I bothered you with nonsense," N'mor said.
"It was no bother, lad. You're a bronzerider. I want you to feel like you are home here. Come and see me anytime, alright?" He rose to his feet to see the youngster out.
"Yes, sir," N'mor said perkily, even if he didn't feel like it. ** I did a fool of myself, didn't I?**
}: No, you didn't, don't worry about it. :{ J'darin smiled kindly at the young man, then nodded. "Off you go then, back to class."
N'mor nodded and got up, leaving the weayleader's office.
