J'darin

J'darin

Zelle knocked on the door in rapid succession three times once she came to the Weyrleader's office. She waited until she heard him call out for her to enter, then opened the door. She flashed the bronzerider a bright smile, before holding out a rolled up paper.
"Delivery for you, Weyrleader J'darin."

For once, the hidework on his desk was pleasant. The Wings were doing well, there had been a very successful Hatching, and he had only the usual minor injuries here and there - nothing like the debilitating losses multiple tragedies has inflicted on his Weyr.

To this end, the greenrider that he called into his office got a smile. Odd, for him. He took the message from her with a cocked eyebrow. "Thank you.. Zelle?... Hasaarth tells me. And your dragon Rillith?" He waved her to a seat if she was to wait, and opened the message.

"That's me." Zelle crossed over to the chair and lowered herself into it, placing one leg over the other and leaning upon the arm. "I was asked to deliver a returning message."

The other eyebrow rose to match the first and the smile faded. Her attitude was... familiar. Too familiar for the first time she'd met the Weyrleader of another Weyr. Sharp blue eyes narrowed at her.
"Comfortable?" He had told her to sit, but .. indolent.. was the only word for it. He frowned as he began to read.

"Oh yes, very comfy chair, thanks." Zelle let her gaze wander about the room as she commented, "Dolphin Cove is really nice. I love how close to the sea it is."

Aggravated that she seemed to miss his point, he said nothing in response. He did take a blank hide and begin writing a short response to her message on it. Finally, his natural good manners struggled up from the writing and he said quietly, "Yes, Dolphin Cove is beautiful. Even a Hurricane could not take that away from us."

"A strong weyr." Zelle nodded, then grinned. "I have a good friend who transferred here - K'hetah. I sure do miss him. I've even said something to him about transferring."

There was no other word for it. The Weyrleader goggled at her as if she'd sprouted a dragon's wings.

If Zelle noticed, J'darin quickly hid his reaction. Weyrleader face firmly in place, he quickly finished his answer to the message. "K'hetah has been a fine addition to my Weyr.. but transferring? We have plenty of greenriders here. That is one thing I _do_ have enough of... " It sounded like a vast weight he was forced to bear, but it was laced with humor. After all, one of his best friends was a young female greenrider.

The thought was amended. One of his _only_ friends.

Zelle studied the weyrleader for a moment, uncertain of what she had seen briefly in his face, then shrugged. "I think K'hetah would probably have a heart attack if I really did transfer." Would he though? Would he be against her transferring? Or would he like having her there? It was impossible to tell - K'hetah wasn't necessarily straightforward with his answers sometimes.

"Well, we can't have one of my Wingleaders with heart problems." He looked her over for a moment, judging, deciding. He handed over his return message. "The return message, Zelle. Thank you for bringing it."

Zelle smiled again at the weyrleader, reaching out and taking the message. "No problem." She pushed herself up to a standing position and nodded politely. "Clear skies and all that." She gave him a two fingered salute, then made her way out of the office. It wouldn't be the last time he saw her, she was certain.

J'darin frowned after her. What did other Weyrs teach their riders?
Shaking his head at her ..relaxed.. approach to authority, he turned back to more pleasant things - the good news from the Wings.
