"Here you go," the geologist said, plopping to mugs of ale on the table in front of the bronzerider, sloshing a bit of head onto the table.
"This is a good brew today, I dare say."

"As usually, they don't serve bad batch here," U'das replied and pulled the ale closer to him.

"The service isn't bad either," Zeb smiled as he watched the Headwoman bustle by.

"No, it isn't," U'das said with a quick wink at her direction.

"She's a lovely gal, isn't she?" his companion said with his most appreciative grin.

"Indeed is," U'das said with heartfelt conviction.

"A view that like does a man's heart good," Zeb sighed as he lifted his mug to his lips. She may not be in the spring of youth, but she still had the kind of body that made him grateful he was a man.

"Makes you happy to be alive," the bronzerider grinned.

He smiled, remembering their flirtateous banter. "We had a nice little chat the other day. She's got a great wit."

"Yes, she has. Among other great things," the bald rider's grin was slightly naughty.

"It sounds like you know her well," Zeb said with a curious lift to his eyebrow.

"I do. She's an old friend from Far Island Weyr."

"Oh? A friend?" the master asked casually, "or a _friend_?"

"Friend then, _friend_ now," U'das replied with a grin.

"Ah ha, I see." **Well, this could be rather awkward...** "And are you extremely close friends then? Or just occassional friends?"

U'das shrugged. "We both have busy lives. We are not exactly a young couple. We have undestanding but we also have other things...and other people in our lifes."

"Oh, that's good." Phew. At least there was a slight chance for him to get to know the headwoman still. "It is a Weyr after all, eh?"

"Exactly." U'das lifted his tankard.

"So... It wouldn't upset you if... say _I_ maybe became friends with her. Not friends like _you_ are friends of course," he ammended quickly, "but... friendly..."

"Upset? No, why would it?" U'das said jovially.

"Well, some men do feel a little... territorial over good friends."
Especially when it comes to a _friend_ being too friendly with their special friends.

"I've lived in Weyr too long and have shaken off all notions like that. My ego may suffer, but that's all."

"Well, if you want me to only talk to her as a dear friend, I would not feel at all put out," Zeb assured him.

"She can choose her own company and what she does with them," U'das simply said.

Still, Zeb decided it would probably be best to keep his relationship with the Headwoman to strictly flirting. At least for now. "Well, it's not like any of us could really compete with a bronzerider and former Weyrleader anyway," the geologist said with a teasing tap to his friends shoulder.

"You can always try," U'das laughed teasingly.

"Oh, believe me, I do," Zeb chuckled, lifting his mug once more. "I have a lady I would like to be a _friend_ of myself."

"Oh? The same we have been talking about or someone else?" U'das asked.

"Someone else. But someone you know well." A fact that Zeb was not jealous of, but it was rather amusing how many women they have seemed to share.

"Oo, now I'm intrigued," U'das said. "Who could it be...." He thought thru all the women in the weyr, especially their generation..."Tsaera?"
He guessed.

"Is my interest that obvious?" the geologist grinned, not at all offended that he might be that transparent.

U'das just winked.
