Description: Ikoladith clutches while Jyramikah and I'lan look on.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 11 of Turn 4
The young bronzerider was enjoying some time down on the beach with his canine. Bubbly seemed to be rather enjoying a game of fetch with a ball his owner had fashioned from rags. It was thrown down the sand, and brought back to I'lan over and over again.
}:Doesn't he get tired of that?:{ asked Naath, who preferred to soak up Rukbat's warming rays.
**No, he's a canine, that's what they like to do for fun. It's good for him, he can't run around like that in our Weyr.**
Ikoladith was lounging on her ledge too egg heavy to do much more than that these days. Jyramikah had gone to a meeting, but had told the gold to interrupt her if the time came to clutch.
}:Naath, are you far from the Weyr?:{ she asked wanting to make sure her mate would be there for the clutching of their eggs. She had begun to feel the urge,but she wanted to make sure the bronze was coming before she left for the Sands.
}:I am at the beach with my rider and his canine,:{ came the reply. }:The furry one is having fun making my rider throw a ball for him.:{ It was perhaps a bit more that Ikoladith needed to know, but like his rider Naath was still a bit in awe of the gold and talking covered that.
}:Good. It is time. Can you meet me at the Sands?:{ the gold asked amused about the information regarding the canine. She thought that they were interesting creatures and probably just as annoying as firelizards were. She shifted her body into a more upright position as she started to get onto her feet.
}:We will be there,:{ the bronze assured her.
}:I'lan, I'lan!:{ the dragon called. }:Ikoladith says that she is ready to clutch, and she wants us there. :{
**Now?**
}:Yes now. I told her we would be there.:{
**Then we will be,**. As luck would have it, Bubbly had just brought the ball back, so I'lan was able to put the ball in his belt pouch, and place the leash around his neck for the short walk back to the Weyr.
Satisfied that the bronze was on his way, the gold pushed herself off of the ledge and glided somewhat gracefully down to the entrance to the Sands. She didn't feel the need to alert Jyramikah just yet as she knew that her rider was in an important meeting. She made herself comfortable and waited for the arrival of the bronze as it was unfair to start without him.
Naath made his way onto the sands as his rider secured the canine safely.
Somehow, I'lan thought that Bubbly might not be welcome. The canine gave a small 'wuff' as he was left, curling up in a shady spot to sleep.
}:Hurry up,:{ the bronze told his rider, }:It will happen soon.:{ Jyramikah was glad that the meeting was over as she hadn't heard a complaint from her dragon in awhile which could only mean one thing. The gold was starting to clutch and without _her_ there. It really didn't suprise her anymore as some occassions she hadn't even been allowed inside the hatching grounds for the first two or three sevendays.
**Ikola, dearest. Where are you?** she asked sweetly even though she had a good idea of what the answer would be.
}:On the Sands. You were in an important meeting. You haven't missed more than one or two eggs at the most. I'll be here for quite some time.:{ the queen replied not letting her rider even ask any questions before providing answers.
**You could have at least told me.**
}:You would have left your meeting, wouldn't you?:{
**Well yes.** the goldrider replied as she reached the entrance to the Sands. She saw the bronze who had caught Ikoladith was there as was his young rider. She stood in the entry way for a moment to compose herself so that the young man wouldn't think she was angry at him because she wasn't.
The canine secured by the entrance gave a 'wuff' as the goldrider approached alerting his owner. I'lan had been staring rapt at the gold as the first few eggs appeatred. "Well Done," he muttered.
"How many do you think there might be?" she asked coming to stand beside the young bronzerider.
"I.. I don't know," he said glancing across at her. He still felt a little uncomfortable, but with the eggs starting to appear on the sands. "I think there are three so far, but as for the total, I don't know."
"I say there's probably going to be about thirty five or so. Have you ever seen a gold clutch before?" Jyramikah asked trying to ease his nervousness.
She didn't want to scare him, but she didn't like to be surrounded in silence either.
"No, no I haven't," admitted I'lan. "He's, Naath had only seriously chased green dragons before now."
"It's much like giving birth, but is never boring no matter how many times I've seen her clutching her eggs. She'll be at this for awhile, so would you like me to send for some refreshments?"
"Ummm, please," suddenly the idea of a drink felt good, at least they could talk about the food.
Jyramikah sent her firelizard Tanzin with a note to the kitchens and then settled into the Sands to wait. There were several eggs on the Sands already and her beautiful gold was busy laying yet another one. **How many are there so far?** she asked Ikoladith curiously.
}:Six, but it is only the start.:{ the gold replied as she rearranged an egg and moved a few feet away to begin the process again.
**That it is. You are doing well.** she replied amazed as always by the clutching process.
"How many do you think will be bronze?" asked I'lan. He was curious, knowing that how the dragons had flown, and how long the flight had lasted for could affect it, but the ages of the dragons might have an effect.
"There should be a few bronzes, but mostly greens and blues." Jyramikah replied.
*~*~*~*
Ikoladith nudged the last egg into place with her snout and then looked around at her clutch. Satisfied that the eggs were all where they should be, the gold laid down and closed her eyes.
}:I am finished.:{ she said too tired to bother opening her eyes to see the reaction of those who had come to keep her rider company.
"Is she? Is she done?" asked I'lan as he watched the gold settle.
Jyramikah had been in and out during the gold's clutching, but she had seen the last three eggs. This was her favorite part, counting the eggs. "She's done. Now we get to count them." the goldrider informed I'lan. "You take that side and I'll do this end and we'll meet in the middle." she said pointing to the far side of the Sands.
She had counted fifteen when she met the bronzerider in the middle of the Sands. "How many did you count?" she asked her eyes aglow with excitement.
"Twenty three," he paused, "That makes thirty eight, right?" Thrity eight eggs, now that was definitely something to be proud about if he'd counted right. A first win in a gold flight was enough, but this number of eggs....
"Thirty eight eggs. That is cause for a celebration. Let's go tell the Weyr the good news." the goldrider replied excited about the final number of eggs. It had been awhile since there had been so many eggs in one of Ikoladith's clutches.
"Yes, lets!" Excitement filled the bronzeriders voice. So many eggs, "They've done us proud."
