Chalzie hummed to herself as she exited the dining hall. The Headwoman had approved of her transfer to the Dolphin Hall. Now, all she needed to do was pack and find a rider who would give her a lift. She didn't have many belongings, but didn't relish the thought of lugging them along the path to the Hall either. Arriving to her new home out of breath and sweating wouldn't be the best way to make a good first impression.
She passed the Candidate Barracks, munching on a sweetroll, and headed towards the water, where several dragonriders were bathing their dragons. On the beach was a weyrling seated beside her small green. Chalzie grinned, quickly swallowing rest of the roll so she could great the girl. "Harila!" she yelled, waving a hand in the air. Since the other girl had Impressed, Chalzie had had little chance to see her, and was glad they would be able to chat before she left the Weyr.
"Hello Chalzie!" Harila said. "I was just taking a break from oiling Wosaith. I swear, she grows bigger every time I turn away!"
}:I love you too, rider of mine:{ **You're a brat** Harila fondly said to Wosaith, scratching her eyeridge.
Chalzie grinned, both at Harila's comment and her interaction with Wosaith. "She's definitely bigger than the last time I saw her. I'm sure she keeps you busy."
"That she does. I just wish you would've Impressed out of her clutch so we could be in the same class!" Harila responded, getting back on the task of oiling Wosaith. "Are you going to keep Standing or have you decided to take another route with your life?"
Chalzie took a seat next to dragon and weyrling, slipping her sandals off so she could wriggle her toes in the sand. "How did you know I might want to do something else? I'm actually going to the Dolphin Hall in a couple of days to apprentice there. It's really close, so I'll still be able to come back to the Weyr when I want. But it'll be strange to be living without you, and all our other friends."
Harila slapped Wosaith's side, finally finished oiling her. **Okay love, go take a nice nap in the sun over there.**
}:Yes, that sounds like a great idea:{ Wosaith said sleepily, wobbling over to a warm piece of sand and flopping down.
"Ah, I wish I could just flop down like that for a nap!" Harila said, shaking her head. "Sorry about that! Now, back to our original conversation. At least you'll be close enough that I can come visit you and, when Wosaith's bigger, we can see each other all the time! What made you pick the Dolphin Hall though?"
"Part of the reason is because it's so close," Chalzie admitted. "That'll make it easier. But the main reason is because I really want to be able to be outside all day and swim with dolphins. It sounds like a great life." She grinned. "I guess I'll also have to learn a lot." Then, more excited, "Do you think Wosaith would like dolphins? They could have a lot of fun together."
"Hm, let me ask her," Harila replied, as her eyes briefly unfocused. **Hey love, what do you think of dolphins? Would you want to go play with them when we're able to fly around?** }:Sounds like fun, but I don't know what dolphins are:{ **They could be new friends for you** }:Okay, I like new friends:{ Wosaith replied in a sleepy tone. "Well, she says she doesn't know what dolphins are, but as soon as we're able to go fly about and explore, she'd like to make some new friends," Harila replied, grinning.
Chalzie felt a small pang of jealousy as she saw Harila talk to her green. She quickly waved it away though, replacing it with excitement over the girl's response. "Great! I know it'll be awhile before you two can come, but it's nice to know I'll have visitors." Not wanting the conversation to revolve completely around her, she changed the subject. "Anything new with Wosaith? I mean, besides her growing?" She smiled. "We haven't had much time to talk since the Hatching."
"Well, nothing is new here, really. We've been practicing our ground drills, but we just started that, so it's been a bit difficult getting all the dragonets arranged with everyone else. It's fun though!" Harila said enthusiastically. "It's neat to think that we'll be doing this up in the air eventually."
"Sounds great! I guess your life is busier now than when we were candidates. No more time for pranks or anything."
"Oh, I don't know about that!" Harila said and laughed. "I still find time to get in some trouble! I can't give up my fun ways completely!"
"It's good to know that not _everything_ changes when you Impress. You know, I've missed us living in the Candidate Barracks together. It was a lot of fun."
Harila sighed and grinned. "Yes, it was but I wouldn't trade Wosaith for anything. I'm just glad I didn't have to wait as long as some of the people have. One girl that came down from Dragonsfall to Stand, Kiala, said she'd been standing for about six turns now! I couldn't imagine having to wait that long for Wosaith!"
"That would be awful," Chalzie agreed. **And that's part of the why I'm leaving the Weyr,** she added to herself. "You're lucky. Now you have other things to wait for, like for her to grow up, and for training to be over and everything."
"Yep! And when she finally is grown up, we'll be able to come visit you and swim with the dolphins. That sounds fun."
"I'm glad you agree! And, I'm sure Wosaith will love it." Chalzie looked up at the sun and sighed, realizing it would soon be dark. "Sorry, I promised my fostermother I would spend some time with her after the evening meal. She has suddenly become very protective, which is funny because, since I became a Candidate, we haven't seen each other too often."
Harila laughed. "It's okay! Go, before you keep her waiting to long. And let me know when you're leaving so Wosaith and I can see you off."
Chalzie stood, brushing the sand off her legs and slipping on her sandals. "Of course I will! See you soon!" She gave one last wave and smile before heading towards the Lower Caverns. Maybe her fostermother had made the little redfruit tarts she loved. Chalzie's stomach gave a little rumble in anticipation.
