Description: Dysali is wounded in the first Fall she flies as a Wingrider.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 26 of Turn 4
Notes: Notes: "Alive" titles all Clancey's fault. She regrets they are not
as clever as she hoped. Alive series is closed with this title.
Notes2: D'ren and Dysali are very glad to have posted not 1 but 4
posts in one month and really really want more stories. Volunteers
should form a line in our email boxes.
She flinched away from the healer sewing the laceration in her arm,
and scowled at him. "I'm a woman not a pincushion! Careful, please?"
For an answer, she got more numbweed slathered on the minor scoring on
her right arm.
She would have a scar to match the one on her left arm, now.
Moments later, the journeyman left her and she sank back into contact
with Lillyth.
}:You are hurt! I am not hurt badly. They have taken care of me.:{
**Oh Lillyth!! I'm fine, love. And so are you. We were not hurt very
badly, but that clump did just catch us before it was flamed to
char.**
She struggled to sit up, wanting to get to Lillyth. She wasn't in
pain at the moment - numbweed was wonderful stuff - and her feet hit
the infirmary floor with purpose, but before she could leave, the
curtain was lifted away to let in another person.
"Dysali!" D'ren's face was etched with worry. "They told me you were
all right, but I had to see."
"D'ren!" she hurried toward him. Only her arm was Scored, after all.
The healers had said she could leave as soon as she felt up to it.
"I'm alright, Lillyth is alright. But I got a mild Score." She held
out her arm, waving it toward him. "I'll have matching scars now."
And added the left arm to it. She still had the very faint scar on
her cheek from when she'd been hurt in the Tragedy.
More relieved than worried now that he had seen her injury wasn't bad,
D'ren smiled. "I'd kiss it to help make it better, but I'd end up
talking funny for the next candlemark."
She laughed and leaned on him. "My lips don't have any numbweed on
them, bronzerider." She teased, stretching to kiss him lightly,
feeling her blood thrill with the after-effects of fighting Thread and
surviving.
"I was going to see Lillyth. Come with me?"
"Of course." He put an arm around her waist as they walked out of the infirmary.
"It was scary, you know." She said as they walked. "But Lillyth flew
well! We did very well until the end of our shift; we were both tired
and we didn't react fast enough. Faranth, D'ren! We could have been
hurt so much worse."
He stopped and held her closer. "I know . . ." Kissed her brow. "I know."
She melted into his arms, shaking a little in reaction. Her blood
was running a bit high, but being held by him nearly undid her. What
if ... and it came from her lips before she could stop it, "Oh D'ren..
what if something happened to either one of us...? What _if_? Or
maybe... when."
"Don't think about it." D'ren kissed her again. "You made it. We both
made it through the day. Let's just be thankful for that. And next
time you'll do better, since now you know what it's like." The same
worries were running through his mind, but he didn't want to dwell on
them.
She nodded against his chest, her head buried there. "Lillyth was
Scored too, lightly, but she seems fine. We'll do better next time
for sure." She promised darkly, her voice muffled. "Thank you for
being here, love."
"I'll always be here for you." Though he wondered if he would be able
to keep that promise.
Dysali shivered a little at the thought of D'ren not being there one
day. Would he leave her? Would Thread get him? Lillyth read her
distress and crooned; they could not see her yet but the could hear
her.
}:I will never leave you. Never never!:{ The reassuring sense of her
bond to Lillyth helped some and she raised her head to look at D'ren.
He'd been so much to her - everything that was good and important in
her life aside from Lillyth involved him.
"I'm glad, D'ren. I don't know what I'd do with you." She managed a
smile and then tugged on his arm. "Lillyth grows anxious. Lets go."
