Teseada

Teseada

Saria felt the presence of the gold dragon before she rounded the corner and saw it. It was magnificent; and the light snow only seemed to make her glow more.
She'd never seen a more beautiful thing in her life.

"She's beautiful." She breathed holding one hand out, wishing she could touch her.

}:Do you think so?:{ said Onnyth. The comment was not aimed so much at the young woman in front of her as her rider who was stood on her other side holding up some leather for straps.

**The lighter one I think.**

"I know so." She assured the dragon. She found it hurt less to talk with the dragon verbally not mentally.

"I'm sorry?" Teseada came into view, still holding the leather. "Where you talking to me?"

Saria jumped when the rider spoke and pulled her hand back. She thought the dragon had been talking to her.
"Oh no. I," people would find out sooner or later she might as well start now. "I was talking to your dragon. I overheard your conversation. I'm very sorry." She flinched in anticipation of the goldrider's reprimand.

"You were?" asked Teseada curiously. Some new people to the weyr were to overawed at first to even go near them, and this woman had to be new, by her expression.

}:She was, and I know it.:{ Saria nodded. "Maybe we should back up a bit. I'm Saria." She held out her hand. "You have a lovely dragon."

"Well met," replied the young goldrider taking the offered hand. "Teseada, Onnyth's rider."

"Onnyth. A lovely name for a lovely dragon." Saria looked back at Onnyth again. "She's so beautiful."
Saria sighed, her pain forgotten. "Were you surprised?" she asked Teseada. "That she chose you I mean."

}:You were the only one for me,:{ Onnyth assured her rider. }:I knew that when I saw you.:{ "A little, I'd almost decided I wasn't going to find my lifemate on the sands, when she fell at my feet." A loving look crossed her face as she glanced to the gold. "I'd not change anything now, not for all the marks on Pern."

Saria's smile was bittersweet as she heard both comments. "It must be wonderful to have that mind so close to yours." **All I get is a jumble of others thoughts and confusing emotions. And pain, lots of pain.**

"I don't think I can describe it in words. What I can say is that she has been good for me, really good."

"That sounds nice." Saria glanced at the queen again and sighed. "Teseada, I know we've just met but can I ask you a rather important question?" Seeing this beauty of a gold made Saria want to seek help to control her ability.

Once she'd have been rather rude, and told the woman where to go, but since impression she had begun to realise that sometimes people just want to be listened to, even if the question isn't important to you. "Of course."

Saria took a deep breath. "Have," she swallowed her dry tongue, cursing its ill timing. "Have you ever heard others dragons before?" Her eyes held all the want she could offer. The want to know she wasn't alone.

"Dragons don't tend to talk to anyone other than their riders," replied Teseada. Certainly no other dragon had spoken to her.

Saria tried to keep her emotions under control. She knew her kind existed, but maybe she was the only one now. The thought made Saria a little sick. "But, you haven't just, heard them talking, they have such interesting conversations..."

"Sometimes the ones Onnyth repeats to me do sound interesting." Hang on - wouldn't most people have said that they _must_ have interesting conversations.
Teseada's mind began to work on that thought, what if she was like the Weyrleader.

**Onnyth, just say something, anything. See if she hears us.**

}:Can you hear me?:{ asked the gold. }:Can you hear what I'm saying?:{ Saria's grew wide at the comment the dragon made. "I can." She said. Onnyth's voice sounded so soft to her, calm and soothing, and remarkably like Teseada's.
"I can here you Onnyth." She said out loud, partly for Teseada's sake, partly because she didn't want to risk hurting her head further.

"Has this happened before?" asked Teseada curiously.
"Have any other dragons spoken to you?"

"I've spoken to a few dragons before. The one that told me, just a few days ago actually, was Elliath, Karri's dragon." Saria said. "But I mostly hear them as they speak to each other, or their riders. It's worst during the day when the dragons and their riders are awake. But some nights I can't sleep because my head hurts so much." Saria didn't know why she was telling Teseada this but it just felt so good to talk about it.

"I think you need to go and see the Weyrleaders as soon as possible," Teseada said finally. "They need to know, and the Weyrleader himself, he's the same as you, he can hear them all as well. He'll be able to help you."

Saria looked at the girl in disbelief for a moment.
She wasn't alone? There was another person like her, here? "I should really tell them?" Doubt crept into her mind. What if she was wrong? What if she was just crazy? "What would they want to know for?"

"Do you know how useful it would be during a fall? To have someone who can relay messages between the wings.
That's probably what they would say."

"But isn't that what the Weyrleader can do? What would they need me for?" **I'd just be another deadweight they'd have to decide what to do with, just like at home.**

}:You are not a deadweight, you can help us,:{ the gold told her.

Saria looked at the dragon indisbelief. "You heard that?" She asked. Did she have _no_ privacy?

"Onnyth must have thought you were talking to her,"
explained Teseada. "Trust me, if you speak to the Weyrleader, he can help you learn how to make things that are just for you, to give you a bit of space."

"Really," She'd love to have control over her life again. She hated the feeling of confusion she had. "He could help me control this?" She tapped her head.

"He seems to have found a way to deal with it."

"That would be amazing! I'd have my life back." No more headaches, no more stomach pains, no more late night conversations she couldn't find the speakers of.
"Are you sure he'd help someone like me?" She asked, suddenly scared that he wouldn't help.

"Of course he would. He'll understand what's going on."

"I'll think about it. But you can't tell anyone Teseada. I have to be te one to tell." **It's not like I haven't told half the weyr already.** She thought in the smallest recesses of her mind, hoping Onnyth wouldn'y hear it.

}:I won't tell anyone,:{ assured the dragon.

**Oh, thank you.** Saria's voice was rather timid. It was her first time purposely talking to a dragon mind to mind.

}:You're welcome.:{
