Abrei

Abrei

Abrei almost didn't answer the door. She'd just finished enjoying a very long bath, and was in the most pleasant mood she could remember being in since things had been good with R'han. She'd even gotten out the salve M'galec had given her and started rubbing it into the scar on her hand. For a moment she considered letting whoever it was go away, but it might have been U'kaiah. In her current relaxed mood, a visit from him would be more than welcome.

She opened the door to find a bronzerider, though not the one she had been hoping for. "Good evening, Abrei," M'galec smiled, though it faltered a bit when he noticed just how short her robe was...
Hopefully he wasn't interrupting anything... "I am not intruding, I hope."

Deciding that being cordial might be the best way to get rid of him--especially since he'd taken to not responding to her insults--Abrei managed a smile. "No, I was just about to take care of my scar." She held up the hand that still had salve smeared along the scar tissue.
"Thank you for the salve, by the way."

"My pleasure," he nodded, relieved that she apparently had no other company. "I ah... Actually I was coming by to check and see how it is healing."

**Oh, just invite him in. What can it possibly hurt?** Abrei opened the door and let him slip past, reminding herself of just who she was dealing with. No matter how sweet and charming he might try to be, this was still M'galec. And she knew better than to let him charm her. "Have a seat, and you can look at it, if you like."

"Thank you. Your hair is growing out I see. It actually looks quite nice." Though he did miss her long hair.

One hand came up to her hair as she sat back down, tucking her legs up under her. "Oh. I guess it is getting longer."

M'galec tried not to notice how her robe didn't quite cover her knees.
"Do you plan to grow it out more? Or will you keep it short?"

"I hadn't really thought about it," she admitted, holding her injured hand out to him. "The salve is still on the footstool if you think it needs more."

"How does it feel when you are using it?" He assumed she was working with her hands in her new line of work.

"Mostly fine. A little stiff sometimes..." She curled it into a fist and then stretched her fingers out. "A little pulling around the scar."

"How do you like working with Master Iyoen?" M'galec asked casually as he traced the scar with his thumb.

"Better than I expected," she admitted, her eyes drifting shut as he gently rubbed the salve into the scar. "The plants are interesting."

"I am glad that you are enjoying it," he said softly, his voice naturally deep and resonating. It was the voice he used with his patients that seemed to calm them and help them relax. "I am sure Master Iyoen appreciates your expertise."

"He's very patient. Which is good because I'm not very good with plants." In spite of herself, Abrei found his tone relaxing, and she sank a little lower on the couch and leaned her head back to rest against the cushion. "It is interesting, how much they can control by selective pollination. He very well may be able to enhance the herbs used in healing."

He hooked one little finger between her pinky and ring finger, and his other under the soft webbing between her pointer finger and thumb, gently stretching the muscles of her hand as his thumbs messaged her palm. "They have used those kinds of theories on livestock since time began. It is only natural that the same principle could be applied to herbs. The work you are doing will prove very important. Of that I have no doubt."

"It is sort of nice to be studying again," she admitted, her voice losing the tight edge it usually had around M'galec. "I never had time to do so when I was Weyrhealer. I forgot how much I enjoy learning new things."

"Knowledge is never a waste," he agreed. "Give me your other hand."

Abrei's eyes popped open. "There's nothing wrong with my other hand."

"I know," M'galec nodded. "But it is customary when you massage one hand you then give the other equal treatment. I assume you work with _both_ in the greenhouse."

"I don't know if this is a good idea, M'galec," she said warily, sitting back up. "It was nice of you to check on me, but perhaps it's time for you to go."

"As you wish." M'galec rose to his feet without protestation. "Please keep using the salve, and stretch and massage those muscles in your hand. It aids in circulation and will help you retain full range of movement."

Abrei's eyebrows came together. "M'galec, don't speak to me as if I am an apprentice. I haven't forgotten what to do."

"I would never speak to you as an apprentice, Master Abrei," the bronzerider replied gently. "I was speaking to you as my patient." Something which for some healers was an equally great offense. He knew too well healers made the worst patients.

It was almost annoying that he wouldn't rise to her bait and fight with her anymore. Fighting with M'galec had been a comfortable outlet for frustration, even if it had ended badly usually. "Fine. I'll take care of it."

He gave her satisfied nod. "Good evening, then."
