Date: month 2, day 28 of Turn 4
"May I ask a dance of the bride?" Kiomo asked innocently as Miralani was being escorted from the dance floor by her last partner.
"You may," Miralani replied just as sweetly, putting her hand in his.
"But it will have to be a short one. My husband is anxious to retire."
"I'd just bet he is," he grinned as he lead her out onto the dance floor. "And are you anxious to retire?"
Miralani smiled. "Of course I am. What wife wouldn't be?"
His eyebrow raised dubiously as he twirled her around the floor.
**_His_ wife?** "Well, I can honestly say that, in that regard, Daynar is a lucky man."
"Is that your educated deduction, my lord Kiomo?" she asked sweetly once their steps had taken them out of hearing range of the nearest person.
"Oh no. I _know_ so," he murmurred softly, smiling knowingly. "I have had some experience in these matters, after all."
"My experience is that you've had quite a bit of experience in many matters," she replied just as softly.
"If only I had been a Hallmaster, eh?" Kiomo asked, only half teasing.
Miralani raised an eyebrow at him. "I believe no place on Pern would be safe if you and I had made a match of it. Perhaps it's best for everyone that you're not a Hallmaster."
"I would never have been much of a crafter anyway," he replied with a dramatic sigh. "None seem suited to my particular talents."
Kiomo spun her skillfully, and she laughed as she slid her hand back onto his shoulder. "I suppose it depends on which of your many skills you're considering."
"Hmmm... I'll leave the considering of my skills to you," he smiled with a quick wink.
"How considerate of you!" Miralani nodded to an older man who was escorting Royani around the dance floor as they spun past and then turned her attention back to Kiomo. "Someone needs to rescue that poor girl from the long line of old men looking for a way into Benaroy's good graces."
Kiomo smiled knowingly as he glanced over in the young woman's direction. "Your brother isn't paying her the attention you had hoped?"
"My brother has many people who need his attention today," she replied lightly.
"Hmmm... Yes. I hope she didn't waste a trip." After all that careful planning he knew Miralani had done, he wondered why she would be taking the Lord Warder's indifference so casually.
"No opportunity is ever completely wasted if you're clever enough, Kiomo." Miralani smiled. "I thought you of all people would know that."
Just what did she have up her sleeve? Ishek had seemed to take no interest in the young lady whatsoever, and yet she looked perfectly calm. Almost _too_ calm. Her mind was working though, he was sure of that. "Yes, but everyone who is good at a craft enjoys sharing trade secrets now and then."
Miralani's smile was innocent. "I thought we were just bemoaning the fact that you aren't good at any crafts."
"There is no Hall for the craft we practice, or else I would be a Hallmaster. And you would be _my_ lady."
For a moment she allowed herself to consider what a life with Kiomo might have been like. Exciting to be sure. And dangerous. Life would be much more comfortable with a man firmly wrapped around her finger. "It's a pity we'll never find out what that would have been like."
"Oh, but we have." Kiomo leaned a bit closer and murmured, "And we could again..."
"Is that all marriage is to you?" Miralani's eyebroow went up again.
"Though I suppose you did prove fairly proficient at it."
"No, marriage is a political alliance done for marks, status, security and legitimate procreation. Luckily, you and I don't have to be married to practice the latter..."
"How shocking." She smiled as Kiomo spun her neatly again. When she was back in his arms, her smile turned sweetly innocent. "But you should know, I only procreate with my legitimate husband."
"Then let's not procreate." He bent over her, gently dipping her as the song wound down to a close. "Let's just have sharding good sex."
Miralani stared up at him for a breathless moment, tempted for the first time ever to consider going outside her marriage vows. Then she smiled. "You would be so lucky." "Madam, I _will_ be so lucky," Kiomo grinned as he pulled her back to her feet, his smile and tone of voice exuding his confidence in his statement.
