N'kalen sighed, and wiped a tear from his face. He couldn't stop thinking about her...about 'Ada. Why find her again now? He took a bite of food, but could not taste it.
"Not feeling particularly manly today, N'kalen?" the bluerider across from him asked with a a rather unsympathetic sneer.
N'kalen looked up, startled. "Oh, ah...Hello V'lorn"
"Just what has gotten you crying in your stew?" V'lorn asked, tearing a piece of roll off and dipping it in his own.
N'kalen sighed. "A...wom...Someone from my past." He absently stirred his now cold stew and took a bite, not even tasting it.
"And you're letting her get to you this bad?" V'lorn had little patience for romance unless it was going to get him what he wanted.
Watching a grown man cry over a relationship over long ago was just pathetic.
N'kalen smiled sadly. "She...I never thought I would see her again.
I...we ended things abrubtly." He let his mind drift to all the times they had spent together, the things she had taught him. "And now she is here..."
His wingmate rolled his eyes. "Well then what are you blubbering about.
Go bed her already."
"What?! I...couldn't. She and I...We aren't like that anymore." Though it would be wonderful if they were.
**Oh, how terribly dramatic,** V'lorn muttered to himself. "For Faranth's sake, N'kalen, stop making a scene in the middle of the dinning hall and just go to her. Be a man!"
"What does it matter to you V'lorn? It's not your life!" N'kalen bristled.
"Yes, but this is my meal and I would prefer a bluerider who wasn't about to get mucous in his food sitting across from me." He stabbed a tuber impatiently. "If you're so broken up about her, just go get her."
"You sat here. Besides, I have someone else I might want a relationship with."
"Then why are you even worried about what's-her-name. Make up your mind already."
"I've made up my mind. It just...the past hurts."
"Don't you cry about the past. Its what makes you who you are. Use the pain, or it will use you. And so will that bitch that hurt you." V'lorn knew that all too well.
"Perhaps. I think I am just going to finish eating and go study."
V'lorn rolled his eyes. Some people would never learn. And they would always be the ones walked on throughout their lives. "That sounds just fine."
