The brownrider ran a hand through his hair and leaned back against the wall of the corridor. "So," he said to the bronzerider next to him.
"She better be worth it, because she sure isn't a looker like that new one is."

Y'nub snorted, "She is... and which one, there are several buzzing around me at the moment." One of the _curses_ of being a good looking bronzerider was the constant attention by the women. And why did D'enek have to bring up Teseada again. He didn't particularly like the way his friend always put her down, though he was right, she was sort of plain looking; but he did like her smile.

"The Weyrwoman's second. You can't tell me you haven't seen her. You'd have noticed her if you had." D'enek gestured with his hands, perhaps over exaggerating the goldrider's figure a little. "Hair down to her butt as well, imagine running your fingers through that! You could do a lot better than that Weyrling, she looks like she could be clingy.."

"She _is_ clingy." Y'nub admitted. When he'd started courting her, he'd hoped he could still play around and have fun, but she had reacted badly when she'd seen him with Jenali, and he'd had to act more discreet in his dalliances ever since. "But she's not a weyrling anymore, she a _goldrider_. And when her gold rises, Teseada and Onnyth will want me and Larweth to win. We'll have proven ourselves strong and with a clutch, the Weyrleader will have to _finally_ take notice of us!"

"True, but it was a bet, and you've more than won it now. I mean she's eating out of your hands." Y'nub rolled his eyes, couldn't D'enek see the bigger picture! "Which is why I need to keep seeing her! If I just dropped her now, some other bronzerider would sweep in and then _he_ would win her flight! I need to keep her away from them so that Onnyth doesn't become attached to anyone but Larweth."

"You want me to double the stakes? Is that it?" suggested D'enek. Shards! Couldn't D'enek ever think of anything other than his next bet! Y'nub could care less about the marks, this was his future he was thinking about here! Still... he didn't want to appear weak in front of the brownrider, and he _was_ fairly confident that all the hours he'd put into Teseada would pay off and assure Larweth the win. "Sounds good to me... if you can afford to lose the marks that is!" "You know I love the odds, I'm not from Bitra for nothing." D'enek laughed.

Y'nub chuckled in acknowledgment and gave his friend a slap on the back, "Come on D'enek, I've got to meet up with Teseada soon, and I've got to drop off these straps first." "And you can't be late for the goldrider, can you?"

"No, I can't, not if I want to win those marks." the bronzerider replied pointedly as he walked down the hall. Karri stayed frozen against the railing of the stairwell until the two male voices faded down the corridor. She couldn't believe what she had overheard. Y'nub, and some man named D'enek, had made a bet about Teseada and winning Onnyth's flight! And he was only with her to get the notice of the Weyrleader! That sharding lowlife tunnelsnake will regret the day his dragon's shell even cracked after she told Teseada about this!

Karri started to fly down the stairs, she had to find Teseada before Y'nub did. Just the thought of him getting his slimy hands on her friend made her sick. **Elliath, ask Onnyth where Teseada is** Karri asked her dragon. Her concentration divided, she slid on the next step and the greenrider found her self tumbling down the last of the stairs where she slammed into the wall with a dull thud.
