Abrei smiled as she shifted to use K'mai's shoulder as a pillow. Where the actual pillows had ended up was anyone's guess, but she was far too satisfied too worry about it. K'mai obviously had the creativity to live up to his boasts, and the adventure had turned out to be something Abrei hadn't experienced in longer than she could remember.
Fun. Pure, uncomplicated fun. K'mai didn't seem interested in forcing her to talk about her feelings or smothering her in possessiveness or any of the things that had left her feeling uncomfortable or awkward with other men.
"Mmmm . . . a smile. That's what I like to see." K'mai trailed a hand down her arm. It still seemed too unbelievable: Abrei sharing his bed, and apparently quite happy about it.
She laughed lazily. "So this is what that often lauded fun feels like..."
"And now you see what you've been missing." He chuckled.
Stretching her arms out, Abrei turned over on to her back and relaxed against his side. "And we don't have to get all stressed out over it? Or talk about what it means? Or make strange unnecessary promises?"
K'mai gave her a confused look. "What would we need to do any of that for? We're just having fun."
Abrei closed her eyes with a groan. "_Shards_ have I been sleeping with the wrong men. I must have terrible taste." She opened her eyes back up and actually grinned at him. "Present company excluded, of course."
"So I'm the best you've had?" he asked, mirroring her grin and slipping an arm behind his head.
"You're the least complicated I've ever had," she offered, wrinkling her nose at him. She slid a hand onto his chest and let her fingers trace mindless patterns along his skin. "It was nice, K'mai. And fun. And I wish I'd done it a long time ago."
"Me too." He bent to kiss her forehead.
Abrei let her fingers wander a little more freely. "So since we've managed it past the awkward part, now you have to teach me how to flirt.
And play poker. And have fun."
"I'm up for the challenge," he teased, letting his own fingers wander along her hip.
"You may regret that. I don't have anything to do for the rest of the month, after all." And unless she could find other men like K'mai who weren't going to ruin everything with silly emotions... "Hey!" she exclaimed suddenly, sitting up excitedly. She jabbed a finger into his chest. "You know how to find men who are going to be fun, right? Help me learn!"
K'mai chuckled. "Well, some of my bedmates are out of the question. But I'm sure I could teach you."
She jumped topics like a feline distracted by something shiny. "Out of the question? Why?"
"Because some of those 'fun men' wouldn't be interested in you at all."
"Oh." She considered that for a moment. "Fine, no men who don't like women." She paused. "And no women either, for that matter."
He smiled. "Although that would be interesting . . . "
She actually tried to picture it for a moment before making a face. "No.
Not really."
"What was that look on your face? Were you considering it?" he teased.
She propped her chin on his chest and looked at him. "Why, is that a problem?"
"No. It's just . . . unexpected." K'mai ran a hand through her hair.
"Maybe once you get comfortable with flirting I'll give you some other things to consider."
Abrei couldn't help but laugh. "I can't flirt to save my life, but I _did_ spend an awful lot of time with R'han. Good luck giving me anything to consider that he didn't suggest."
"R'han isn't a bluerider." He smiled suggestively.
For a moment Abrei didn't understand the implication, her attempt to work through the sentence clear in her slightly furrowed eyebrows. Then her eyes popped open along with her mouth as her cheeks actually turned pink. "Oh."
K'mai laughed. "This is going to be so much fun!"
