Abrei huffed as wrestled her bulky tunic up over her head. "You did that
on purpose, K'mai," she accused, her voice muffled as she tugged the
garment off and tossed it at him, revealing a brightly colored
sleeveless shirt that she'd been wearing underneath it. The scarf she
shrugged off and let it fall behind her. "When do _you_ have to start
taking clothes off?"
"When you beat me," he said, smiling. K'mai pushed the deck of cards
across the table to her. "Here, you can deal this time." Wadding up the
tunic she'd tossed to him, he set it off to the side of the table.
Abrei made a face as she picked up the cards, dealing them out
carefully. "I think this is more fun if you're winning."
"Probably." K'mai chuckled. Picking up his cards, he thought, **She has to win this time. I have _nothing_.** "I bet my pants."
Suddenly Abrei found herself faced with a dilemma. Her hand was fair enough... probably good enough to win. But if she won, K'mai was going to take off his pants. And that just presented all sorts of distractions and opportunities that she wasn't sure she was ready to handle. Perhaps that was people usually played this game while drinking... "Fine, I call another shirt."
K'mai rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Well . . . I guess I won't raise. Call."
For a very long moment, Abrei considered folding so that she wouldn't have to deal with the added complication of K'mai wearing no pants. But she hated losing, and if her self-control was so pathetic that she couldn't resist him, so be it. At least it couldn't end any more awkwardly than that terrible night with R'yin. "Fine," she said, laying down her cards. "Take off your pants."
Unable to hide a grin, K'mai stood up and took off his pants. Slowly. "You know, Abrei, there are much easier ways to get me out of my pants."
"Especially since it took three hands," she grumbled, reaching out to sweep his cards back into her hand. "This is a silly game to play sober. Are you sure we shouldn't just have sex now and then you can teach me how to play poker later?"
The bluerider arched an eyebrow. "That sounds like a good plan to me. As long as you don't pass out on me this time."
Abrei waved the deck in front of him. "If I were drunk enough to pass out, this would still seem like a good idea. They won't let me drink until they're sure my stomach has recovered." Which was totally unfair and starting to make her a little antsy. "You're not going to get all strange and awkward on me if I say yes, are you?"
The eyebrow went higher. "I'll be surprised, but I won't get strange." Was she really considering it? _Sober_?
"Alright." Abrei set the deck back down and crossed her arms over her chest. "Then take off your shirt."
K'mai shrugged. "Okay." It was odd to hear coming from Abrei, but people telling him to take off his clothes was nothing new. He pulled off his shirt and dropped it on the table.
Abrei blinked in surprise. "You're right... that was fairly easy." A smile played at her lips as she sat back and crossed her arms over her chest. "You're supposed to be the expert in flirting. Why are you making me do all the work?"
"You need practice." He smiled as he moved around the table. "Now, I think it's your turn to take off some clothes."
"I did," Abrei replied with an overly sweet smile. She lifted one leg to show a bare foot poking out from under her skirt. "I took off a boot."
"Then I'll help you with the other one," K'mai knelt and reached for her still-booted foot.
She let him slide the boot off, but then she stood and pulled both of her remaining shirts over her head at once, dropping them on the floor in front of him. "Lessons in flirting later," she said firmly as her fingers went to the knot on her skirt. "This is already going to be strange enough, so let's just get on to the part where neither of us are in any condition to notice." She flashed him a smile as she let her skirt drop to the floor. "If we survive the awkwardness, you can teach me how to flirt next time."
He stepped close to her and put an arm around her waist. Abrei, naked and willing after all this time . . . it was amazing. "I'll do my best to make sure it isn't awkward." K'mai kissed her, hoping she wouldn't suddenly change her mind.
Changing her mind had not been out of the question, but Abrei had decided to give K'mai the chance to move them past awkwardness before she deserted the idea entirely. Luckily, the combination of warm skin and even warmer kisses quickly washed away any reservations, so that Abrei only had one thing to say when they finally surfaced for air. "Which direction is the bed?"
