Description: L'pin shows Kenaline that he's still young enough to wear her out on the dance floor.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 3
Kenaline let go of her most recent partner and flung a hand out to catch herself. "Whoops!" she exclaimed when she ended up with her hands planted on L'pin's chest. "That rider sure liked to spin! Kindly remind me which direction is up?"
L'pin smiled and looked down at her. "The way my face is." he replied lightly. "I see you're enjoying yourself." He was too. Several dance partners, though not the one he'd been looking for yet, and a shot of some pretty heady liquor made the Weyrlingmaster's Second just a tad bit flustered. "Lovely, isn't it?"
The greenrider grinned at him. "What, the dancing or your face?"
"Whichever you prefer. I'd hope the latter, but I presume you mean the former." He never would have normally said something like that, not so flirtatious, but why not cut loose tonight? It was a good night.
Kenaline laughed and leaned back a bit to consider L'pin. "Well, maybe it's all the spinning, but your face looks pretty good to me. How's the rest of you doing? Feeling up to a dance with a lively young greenrider?"
"Certainly!" L'pin agreed. "I'm sure I can be a match for you."
A new song started, and Kenaline tugged L'pin back in the direction of the dancers. "We'll just see about that, won't we!"
L'pin grinned and followed her out. "Think I'm too old to keep up?" he teased.
"You? Old?" Sliding her hands into his, she wiggled her eyebrows at him teasingly. "Don't go making excuses, now, just because you don't think you can keep up with me!"
"Don't use your youth as an excuse when I beat you." he retorted playfully.
"You know," he remarked, "I'm surprised we haven't yet danced tonight. Have you been dancing all night?"
"Oh, yes!" Kenaline laughed as he swung her around with the music, impressed in spite of herself. Maybe he _was_ a little more spry than she'd expected!
"I love to dance," she continued when her feet were back on the ground.
L'pin continued to dance with her. "So do I. It's wonderful to have occasions where you can dance all night, isn't it?"
"There should be more," she agreed breathlessly. "I'm Kenaline, by the way.
And I'm thinking I might have to claim you for another dance!"
L'pin grinned. "So long as you don't claim me all night, you're welcome to more dances."
"Oh-ho! Is my dashing dance partner waiting for someone special?"
Kenaline grinned. "A special lady or fellow?"
"The Weyrwoman herself promised me a dance. I tried to con one out of the Weyrlingmaster, but I've been trying for Turns and he won't give in yet. Do you have anyone special to dance with today?"
"I haven't been here long enough to find anyone special," she replied cheerfully. "Present company excluded, of course. Though I wouldn't mind luring that Weyrlingmaster off into a dark corner, if he didn't look so stern! Is he really as scary as he looks?"
"Scary? No, not really. I think he's chasing someone, but I think if you tried it you might get a response." L'pin laughed.
Kenaline made a face. "No, thank you. I don't like my men distracted.
Besides, bronzeriders are a little too needy for my tastes. There's almost never room in bed for them _and_ their egos!"
L'pin laughed. "It makes me glad I don't ride green, although some of them are hot enough that it'd be nice to catch one post Flight."
"Mmmmm. I suppose they have their uses." She winked up at him as they spun around again. "Not that I have any complaints about the bluerider I woke up with last time! You blueriders can be just as nice to look at, and a lot more fun!"
"Oh, we're _always_ more fun." L'pin made a mental note to Chaneth that chasing her green would be a good thing. A very good thing. "And the older the bluerider, the more tricks we know."
"So I'm learning!" She waited until they'd swung around and the dance had slowed a bit before laughing again. "You're just as good a dancer as you claimed to be."
L'pin smiled. "Glad to be of service." he said with a wink. "So anyone _you're_ dragging off to a dark corner?"
"It depends on how the evening goes," she replied with a cheerful wink. "I'm sure I'll find someone interesting before the evening's over!"
L'pin laughed. "I'm sure there's plenty of people to drag off." He cocked his head, listening to the music of the dance. "It's good to have the Harpers here, the dancing might not be as good without their talent."
"I don't know, I think you're good enough to make any sort of dance enjoyable," she replied, flirting shamelessly. She usually liked her men a little closer to her own age, but there was never any harm in flirting.
"You're excellent at dancing yourself. Perhaps we should dance more often and, perhaps, attempt different dances." His smile contained more then just friendliness this time.
Kenaline replied by pressing a little closer and grinning up at him. "That could prove entertaining for both of us, couldn't it? You'll have to look me up some night when you're not waiting to dance with a special someone."
"I promise I'll do that." L'pin answered, reminding Chaneth- again- that this was a green to chase. "I'm sure we'd both find that very enjoyable."
They slowed as the song drew to a close, and Kenaline was surprised to find herself more than a little breathless. "Well, that was educational! I'll never doubt your skills again."
L'pin laughed. "Care for another or need to catch your breath?" He needed to as well but wasn't about to admit to it.
Kenaline wouldn't admit it either. "You may be good, but I'm still younger!
If you're up to it, I can dance all night." She grinned at him. "But if you're looking for that special someone, I wouldn't mind waiting until later to claim my second dance."
"How about one more now and then a pause?" he suggested. It was a reasonable compromise.
"No complaints from me!" After all, she could think of worse people to spend the next song pressed up against. L'pin was entertaining and a good dancer, and maybe worth breaking her rule about older men. "Well, shall we?"
"Yes indeed, my lady." L'pin replied, winking at her. "Let's see who tires first."
