Abrei

Abrei

R'yin frowned darkly in the Weyrleader's direction. He had thought going to the celebration of Turn's End would make him feel better, but instead, he felt worse! He and Ciara were getting along again, and well, but all tonight had reminded him of is that _he_ was still alone, and there she was, with K'sedel, happier than he'd ever made her. }: You are NOT alone!:{ Aerrath crooned from the heights, sending strongly to his rider. }: I will always be here. :{
*** I know, Aerrath, but I can't sleep with you every night.***

A mental snort was his answer. Aerrath had repeatedly offered to share his couch with his rider, and could not understand why R'yin said it wasn't very comfortable, being hard stone and all. Why, it was wonderfully comfortable!
And fit all his ridges and spines and limbs just right. The brown dragon just not understand his rider sometimes. The brownrider drained his tenth .. or was it more? ... cup of wine and grabbed up a bottle on his way out the door. Maybe walking would cure him of his depression, as long as he didn't mistakenly drown in the Weyrlake!

Abrei was walking for much the same reason, though she was depressingly, distressingly sober. The mild diet she'd been restricted to since her collapse had alcohol at the top of the list of forbidden items. As annoyed as she was at that, she wasn't annoyed enough to risk aggravating her condition.

She'd escaped into the cool night air to be alone with her brooding, and was none too pleased when she noticed R'yin coming in her direction. The brownrider was obviously in the blissfully intoxicated state that she envied, which meant even her sternest glare didn't dissuade him from approaching.

R'yin didn't even notice the glare. He was blissfully intoxicated; he had had time to empty another quarter of the bottle in his hand. Abrei, Abrei wasn't it? Oh yes, she was or had been the Weyrhealer... The brownrider paused. "A-a-abrei! Lady Master Healer.." His words slurred a bit. She was gorgeous, he decided. "Want s-s-some wine?"

"No, thank you," Abrei replied cooly. Shards, she wanted some wine... R'yin studied her for a moment. She didn't sound too interested, but it never hurt to ask. "What about company?" He said finally, struggling to
-not- slur his words. "Drunken company?"

One eyebrow went up as Abrei studied him. "Are you propositioning me?" she asked, her tone not giving any indication whether she thought this was a good thing or a bad thing.

"If you're saying yes..." the brownrider managed, quite cockily for him.
His serious brown eyes were honest, though, belying the cocky tilt to his head that was more likely caused by his wine. "No one should spend Turn's End alone... " He said softly, to himself, then smiled at her.

She raked her eyes over him. "Are you sober enough to be worth the time?" R'yin considered her question seriously. He dumped his wine bottle over, watching the liquid hit the sand with something like relief. Here was something _much_ better to drown his sorrows. "I can be, if you're as interested in a distraction as I am... "

Abrei considered him for another long moment. Her favorite two self-destructive hobbies--working and drinking--had been forbidden to her. She might as well try something new, like sleeping with men she barely knew. "Are you sober enough to walk back to the Weyr? Or would you prefer to stay here?"

R'yin chuckled. "A walk back might clear my head just enough to be _really_
worth it, Abrei. Lead the way.. I can even get Aerrath to give us a lift to my Weyr if you're feeling like somewhere _else_."

Riding on his dragon would erase any possibility of running into anyone she didn't want to see, and suited Abrei perfectly. "Call your dragon, brownrider."
