B'ram's partner for the evening had been stolen away by her best greenrider friend for a few dances. The brownrider didn't mind too much. He needed to grab a drink and a snack anyway. But an old friend sitting off by herself caught his eye. Slipping into the seat next to her, he stretched an arm out behind her. "And how is it that you find yourself all alone this evening, Dyaera?"

Dyaera glanced up and smiled when she saw B'ram. "Oh, D'cal wandered off to get something to drink. But I think he got caught by a friend."

"Yes, that's what happened to my partner too," B'ram chuckled. "Its good to see you out of your weyr for a change."

"I've been doing a little better," she admitted. "I even danced for a little bit! Not very well, though. I don't actually know how to dance."

"Really?" B'ram asked surprised. "Why not?"

Dyaera shrugged one shoulder. "I don't know... I was never really interested in it. And no one ever tried to teach me until tonight!"

"Really? Well, if ever you want some extra lessons to impress your partner with, just let me know. I'm rather a good dancer," the brownrider said with a smug grin.

"Oh?" Dyaera's attention was caught by the sight of D'cal swinging past with a pretty greenrider who caught Dyaera's eye and gave her a smug grin. "That's nice," she said absently to B'ram as the greenrider laughed at something D'cal said and cast Dyaera another smug look.

"What's that?" B'ram asked, feeling he had missed something.

"What?" Dyaera blinked and turned to look at B'ram. "Oh, it's nice. That you can dance, I mean..." Dyaera's eyes went back to the way the pretty greenrider had her arms twined around D'cal's neck now. For the first time in her life, she felt a stab of jealousy. She didn't mind if he spent time with other women, but he could have at least _told_ her that he had found better company!

"Thanks..." B'ram's eyes followed hers towards the dancing couple. He recognized D'cal immediately and suspected she was less than pleased. "Oh, I see."

"Hmmm?" Dyaera pulled her eyes away from D'cal and glanced at B'ram.
"Oh. Yes... I don't think he's coming back."

"Now, I wouldn't say that," the brownrider said gently. "He probably got pulled onto the dance floor by his friend. I'm sure he'll be back after this dance."

Dyaera shrugged, though for the first time she understood why people didn't always want to admit to their true feelings. "I don't care. I'm tired, anyway. My back and legs are sore, and I want to rest. Maybe if she keeps him entertained, I can go sleep without feeling guilty." "Do you want me to let him know?" B'ram asked, trying to be helpful, though he knew she was hiding how she really felt.

"He'll be fine," Dyaera replied quickly. "But if you wanted to help, you could help me get up to my weyr? I don't know if I'm up to all of the stairs yet..." And if D'cal _did_ happen to look over, let him get an eyeful of B'ram escorting her from the room. Not that she was jealous, of course. Not really. "Sure, sure." He asked his brown to pass the message along to his greenrider's lifemate to let her know he would be back. "So you want to wait until the end of the song? Just in case?"

Dyaera shook her head. "If you can get me up the stairs, you'll have time to come back and find your friend again. And really, I just want to lay down."

"All right," B'ram agreed. He felt really sorry for Dyaera. Just when she got back on her feet...
