Description: While on his way to get a drink for Dyaera, D'cal gets kidnapped by Kenaline for a dance that ends up causing problems.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 3
D'cal pulled her close to try to help her maintain her balance. She was
growing tired, and understandably so. Dyaera hadn't used her muscles so
much in months. "Dyaera, shall we sit down and rest a bit?" he asked
gently. The bluerider knew she would probably want to refuse because of
her stubborn pride, but it was either that or fall straight on her
backside.
Her legs were aching and her muscles were starting to get shaky, but
Dyaera still frowned when D'cal coaxed her in the direction of a chair.
It had been so _long_ since she'd had any fun... "Can we just sit for a
little bit?"
"Sure. Just for a bit," he promised. D'cal knew just how happy she was
to be out and _moving_ for once.
Slumping into a chair, Dyaera winced as she stretched one leg out
slowly. "Fine, maybe I was getting a little tired."
"You've been doing really well, though," D'cal said encouragingly. "We
danced a good few dances. And I'd wager you have a good dance or two
left in you tonight."
"I hope so!" Not that she'd ever cared much for dancing anyway, but it
seemed a lot more important now that she couldn't do it. So many things
did. "Do you think you could get me a drink? I'm really thirsty."
"Sure, I can do that. What would you like?"
"Wine," Dyaera said firmly. The healers had forbidden it for _months_
while she was recovering, saying something about pain medication and her
stomach, but she had finally been released from restriction just a few
days ago.
D'cal leaned down to kiss her cheek softly. "I'll be right back then."
Dyaera smiled at him. "Thank you, D'cal."
The bluerider was halfway to the drink table when he felt a hand grab at
his. Looking up he was surprised to find Kenaline with a rather
desperate look on her face.
"I saved you from Kavlyn," she whispered as she wrapped her arms around
his neck and tugged him back into the dance. "It's your turn to return
the favor! I'm being chased by a very persistent brownrider!"
"Oh, well..." The bluerider glanced over his shoulder in Dyaera's
direction. He had promised to be right back... But how long could the
dance really last? "All right."
"Thank you!" Kenaline glanced over her shoulder and groaned. "Shards,
he's _watching_! Dance us on over to the other side of the room, would
you?"
"Ok," he said as he glanced over his shoulder in Dyaera's
direction. She should be all right for a _dance_ at least. The
bluerider dutifully spun her deeper into the crowd of couples and out of
sight of the brownrider. But he also lost sight of Dyaera as well.
Once they were lost in the crowd, Kenaline relaxed a little. "Are you
here with someone? I didn't mean to steal you away if you were."
"Well, yes, I was," he said with an apologetic smile. "I was just
getting us a drink while she rested her leg."
Kenaline laughed. "Well, dance us back over in the direction of the
drinks, then! We don't have to keep her waiting."
"Yes ma'am," he smiled. "Not that I wouldn't mind dancing another time. I
just feel bad about leaving her..." **Alone?** When D'cal had finally
caught sight of her, he found she seemed to have found a friend to keep
her company. A very familiar spiky-red-haired, brownrider friend. And
they seemed to be laughing and leaning close and having a wonderful
time. Shards...
"D'cal?" Kenaline followed his gaze, trying to see what had made his
face fall. "Is that your friend?"
The bluerider put on a brave smile as he looked back at his dance
partner. "Yeah, that's her. That's Dyaera." And her 'friend'.
Kenaline studied D'cal's face for a moment, and then gave him an
impulsive hug. "Want to keep dancing?"
"Another dance wouldn't hurt. She doesn't seem too thirsty." The
bluerider tried to put on a brave smile, but it looked decidedly fake.
Feeling unexpectedly protective of her new friend, Kenaline slid her
arms a little more snugly around D'cal's neck and spun them past the
greenrider who had apparently hurt poor D'cal's feelings.
