**Just think how things could have been different... if you just could have told _him_ you were sorry.** Wincing, Traelyn shifted slightly to rest her cheek on B'ram's shoulder, watching his chest slowly rise and fall as he slept. She wished she could fall asleep just as sharding easily as he had, but she couldn't get his words out of her mind.
Traelyn closed her eyes. Things could have been so different back at Far Island. All she had needed to say was two, sharding little words to L'kub. But she hadn't. And she _should_ have.
Bitterness and an old guilt welled anew within her.
There had been so much she had needed to apologize for...

Traelyn lounged at one of the corner tables closest to the doorway, watching the throng of people as they moved in and out of the dining cavern. **You said Versith's rider was coming, didn't you?**
}:Versith says as soon as he can.:{ She sighed, crossing her arms over her chest, trying not to look annoyed.
Or feel annoyed.
Shards.
A hand slipped around her waist and lips lightly grazed her ear as a voice whispered, "How could anyone make a gorgeous goldrider like _you_ wait, hmmm?"
Despite her frustration, a slight grin began pulling at the corners of her mouth. "Oh, stop, U'waki," she murmured sarcastically, turning her head to look at him, meeting his eyes. "Before you make me blush like a sharding virgin."
"Well, I think we _both_ know that's not the case," he chuckled, nibbling at her neck and letting his hand wander a little. "And who is the fool who makes you wait, hmm?"
**He's not...** She couldn't even finish the thought--not with his sharding hand roaming like that. "Why does it matter?"
"I just want to know just who it is that has been stealing all of your time," the bronzerider murmured against her skin. "I haven't seen you for a while. I've missed you, you know."
"Have you." Her dry tone suggested that she doubted that, and she coyly shrugged off his lips. "With all those buxom brunettes throwing themselves at your weyr door?"
"I prefer blondes," he said as his fingers ran along the back of her neck and into her golden hair. "And I like the way you make me work for it."
"Turns you on, does it?" Shards, that felt good.
"Oh yes." He moved her hair to the side and began kissing the back of her neck the way he knew she liked. "How long until your bluerider finally shows, hmmm?"
Shivering, she leaned back against him, her fingers wrapping around his hand, stilling it just beneath her breasts. "Why?" she breathed, her eyes fluttering lazily. Shards. What a man could do with just a sharding _touch_...
"Because, I told you, I've missed you..."
Traelyn let a silence stretch between them, her thoughts warring with one another as his lips continued to work her neck. Should she stay? Nyith _had_ said... Oh! Her jaw tightened against a moan as his teeth began nipping at the tender flesh just below her ear.
Scorch it.
"Where?" she murmured, bringing his fingers up just enough to lightly brush against her chest.
The bronzerider smiled triumphantly. "Come with me goldrider," he said taking her hand in his. "He won't even know."

Traelyn snarled at him, her hands clutching his arms as his body pinned hers against the wall. Her snarl then abruptly turned into a moan. Shards--what that man could _do_ when properly motivated...
U'waki leaned his weight against her as he fought to catch his breath again. Why that goldrider insisted on spending most her time with that boy of a bluerider, he would never know. Obviously L'kub didn't know how to please her like _he_ could. But then again, he knew that no matter how sweet his stolen moments with Traelyn were, he would tire of her if she didn't make it so sharding interesting chasing her around.
"Damn," she murmured weakly against his neck before lightly biting it. "That was sharding good." And it had been.
"I would have to agree," the bronzerider murmered as he kissed the base of her neck lightly. "And we could do it all again..."
She gave a breathless laugh, her fingers dancing down his sides to rest low on his hips. "If these sharding doors locked..."
"I don't care about the doors," he said as his lips moved lower, following along the opening of her half-untied tunic. "Tell your bluerider you'll meet him later. We can go back to my weyr and take our time..."
Traelyn drew in a breath, wavering suddenly between desire...and a promise she'd made. She closed her eyes, leaning her head back against the wall.
Shards. Swallowing thickly, she let him continue to caress and kiss, knowing that the longer she swayed, the harder it would be... The silence stretched.
His hands and lips grew bolder as her silence encouraged him. After all, she wasn't saying "no"...
Damn it. That felt so sharding good...and she was so close to just scorching giving in... But L'kub's blue eyes flashed before hers.
Shards...L'kub.
She'd made a promise.
"U'waki..." It was more of a moan than a warning to stop.
"Come with me," he whispered again pulling her close for a deep and convincing kiss. The bronzerider could show her wonders that silly blueboy had not yet even conceived!
L'kub... Damn. "I can't," she whispered once he released her mouth--and she wished she had more sharding _conviction_ in her sharding voice. Swallowing, she tried again. "Not tonight."
"Just for a couple candlemarks," he said nipping teasingly at her lips. "You can meet him later." His fingers wrapped around her hips and pulled them closer against him. "You know what I can do to you."
Shards, how she knew. Swallowing down her desire and shoving away the lust that pulsed through her, Traelyn shook her head, making her body stiffen against his - even though it truly was the _last_ thing she wanted to do right now. "Not tonight, U'waki. I can't."
"All right," he sighed taking a step back. U'waki knew better than to push her too far. After all, if he always won, she wouldn't be _nearly_
so fascinating. He relectantly straighted his clothes once again. "I'll just see you later then?" With a wink, he opened the storeroom door and stepped out into the hall.
When he was gone, Traelyn let loose a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. Scowling, she looked down at her clothes--and winced at how...wrinkled they were. The rumples in her skirt wouldn't be as noticible as the ones in her blouse... Damn. Her scowl deepened as she tried to smooth and straighten her appearance, refusing to feel anything.
**Show nothing.**
She was still finger-combing her long hair behind her ears when she finally walked back into the dining cavern. Some prick had stolen her table. She spared a wicked glare for him before moving further into the crowd of hungry, laughing dragonriders.
"Ah, there's your wayward beauty, L'kub," an all too familiar voice called out. "Goldrider Traelyn. Someone here has been looking for you."
Her heart seemed to freeze and unfreeze in the space of a single beat. Slowly she pivoted towards U'waki's voice, and there he was. With L'kub.
She would show nothing. _Nothing_. **Scorch you, U'waki,** she thought, wishing she could sharding snarl at him. Instead, she smiled at them both.
L'kub turned with an obvious smile of relief. "Ah, there you are." He reached out and wrapped his arms around her. "I was half afraid you had given up waiting for me."
"But don't worry, Traelyn. I kept him company while he waited for you while you were... doing whatever you were doing." U'waki gave her a brazen wink while the bluerider had his back to him.
As she wrapped her own arms around L'kub's waist, she kept her smile in place. But _shards_. She wanted to slap him. Or punch him. Whatever it would sharding take to knock that smug, arrogant grin from the bronzerider's sharding face. "I don't know how people can get through the day without having someone like you to watch out for them, U'waki. L'kub was lucky."
"Well, it appears he's twice lucky to have such a lovely woman as company for the evening," the bronzerider said with a self-satisfied smirk. "I don't suppose you could use any help in wooing her, could you?"
L'kub turned, his arm still tightly wrapped around her waist to face the bronzerider. "No, thank you. I think I can manage from here."
"Oh, I bet you can," U'waki said giving him a knowing clout on the shoulder. "Well, I better leave you to it then." With one last linkering, appreciative look at the goldrider he walked off to find other company for the night.
The bluerider's arm tightened around Traelyn once more as he watched the bronzerider walk away, an uncharacteristic scowl darkening his face. Shards but I can't stand that man. I hate the way he looks at you."
Something inside her twisted painfully. "Scorch him," she murmured hoarsely. Quickly she cleared her throat, then gently turned him around and began leading him towards the other end of the room. Traelyn wished she could bolt away from this room, from him; she wished she could jump into her bathing pool and scrub her body until the lingering scent of that sharding bronzerider was gone; she wished she could erase U'waki, erase the first night she had ever sought his arms, erase the words she'd said to L'kub the night Versith caught his first green.
Traelyn wished for a lot more, but what good were wishes?
Turning her face, she pressed her lips to the corner of L'kub's mouth.
She could never tell.
