"Good evening, bronzerider D'ren," D'cal smiled as he sat down next to his friend, two mugs of ale in hand.
"Good evening, bluerider D'cal," D'ren returned. "How was your first day of drills?"
D'cal shrugged. "Not bad. My new wingmates seem nice." It went without saying that he was less than pleased by the prospect of waking up to J'darin every morning from now on.
"Has J'darin been an arse to you yet, or is he saving that for later?"
The bronzerider half-joked.
"He didn't get much chance, but I'm sure he will," D'cal said with a roll of his eyes. Just why the Weyrleader picked him for his wing, the bluerider would never know. "Perhaps he counts me as a necessary evil."
"Maybe he just needed another bluerider, and you were the lucky choice."
D'ren reached for a mug and took a sip.
"Maybe," he D'cal conceeded with a sigh. "It sure would be easier if you were in the wing with me though."
D'ren echoed his sigh. "I know. And it would be better if you were in my wing."
"Do you like your wing?" D'cal asked curiously.
The bronzerider nodded. "Yeah. Everyone has been nice to me, offering to help with drills, and uh . . . other things." He blushed slightly. "Other things?" D'cal asked with a slight smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He was pretty sure he knew what the bronzerider meant, but he couldn't help but ask, just to see him blush. "What sorts of other things?"
D'ren rolled his eyes, blushing a little more. "You know _exactly_ what I'm talking about."
"Well, I'm sure the greenriders can't help but notice that a handsome young bronzerider has joined their ranks," the bluerider grinned. "You'll be flying some of those greens someday after all."
D'ren groaned and put a hand to his face. "Don't remind me. I'm doing my best not to think about that." D'cal chuckled and leaned towards his friend to quietly say "You're a man, D'ren. We all think about that."
The bronzerider made a face. "Not you too!" There was humor in his tone, though.
"Yes, D'ren, if only Aosorath was a green, you could catch _me_ too!"
D'cal said in his best male greenrider impersonation.
D'ren made an even more exaggerated face before it turned into a grin.
"You wouldn't even know what to do with all this man." He ran his hands down his chest.
"I'm a bluerider, D'ren. I think I could figure it out," his friend replied dryly. "But I might have broken you in the process."
D'ren shook his head, laughing. "I'm so glad you're not a greenrider. No offense D'cal, but I really wouldn't want to wake up next to you."
"None taken. If I'm going to sleep with a man, I want him to be a _real_ man," D'cal chuckled, giving his friend a small clout on the shoulder.
"Ha! Well, if I was a bluerider, I'd show you that I _am_ a real man!"
It was only teasing, but D'ren still blushed as he said it. He'd always been more open minded than most other holders, but the idea of himself with another man was definately uncomfortable. "If you were a bluerider, I think Thread would fall upwards," his friend chuckled. D'cal couldn't even _picture_ D'ren as a bluerider. He wasn't sure he wanted to. "To our new wings!" he said, raising his mug.
The bronzerider lifted his mug as well. "To our new wings!"
