Characters: Aidiata, D'rue
Description: Aidiata and Daiirue meet in the infirmary, where Daiirue is wating for his stomach to settle.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 1 of Turn 4

Daiirue leaned back against the wall, stroking Vree. The herbs they'd given him for his stomach were helping, but not completely. He still felt like there was something slimy in his stomach trying to escape, but at least it was calming down. Finally. He hoped no one recognized him later. He did not want to be remembered hugging a bucket in the infirmary!

Vree crooned reassuringly at him, then chirped. Daiirue opened his eyes to see the little flirt take flight after a green flit that was flying through the hall. The two flits nearly shaved a girl coming from the opposite direction, and Daiirue leaped unsteadily to his feet, intending to scold his bronze but instead paling as his stomach protested.

Aidiata saw the young man stand and then saw his face pale. She quickly came to his side and put a hand on his back, "You should sit. You don't look so well." She had a shy smile and a gentle touch. Her deep brown curls framed her face where two concerned eyes watched him. "Would you like a glass of water?" The flits had not fazed her, having been at the weyr for a bit helped.

Daiirue looked at her helplessly for a moment, determined not to let anything in his stomach have a chance to escape, and mortified that the girl had caught him in his moment of weakness. He took a deep breath, and shook his head. "No, but thank you." He said softly. She really was sort of pretty with all that hair... His eyes slid sideways to her shoulder, and widened. He had heard of them, but he'd never seen a _female_
apprentice before.

"You really should take it easy." She smiled softly. "Is there anything I could get you?"

He shook his head carefully, and made an effort to stand up straight. He made it without further problems, and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry about that." He said carefully. "It... hasn't been a great day."

"I can see that. Why don't we sit you down for a bit? You look a bit pale.
It wouldn't due for you to get sick all over again because you went too quick about it." Instinct warred with training for a moment, and he resisted the urge to shake off her hand, since she was a woman... But no. She was right, and he wasn't too proud to admit it. If he was going to be sick somewhere, he'd far rather do it in a bucket than on someone. Slowly, he returned to his previous seat, and lowered himself down. So far, so good.
He smiled faintly at her as he leaned against the wall. "This is a lousy way to see the weyr, isn't it." He said weakly, but with more of his usual tone.

"Don't worry. you have plenty of time to see the Weyr. First you should see to your health." She stood and fetched a cup of water. She knew he had told her he didn't need it, but he looked like he could use it. She handed it to him. "Here try this."

Daiirue took the glass cautiously, not really certain he wanted to risk adding anything else to his stomach yet, but not wanting to insult the pretty girl either. After eyeing it warily for a moment, he took a tiny sip. The moisture helped ease the foul taste in his mouth. "Thank you." He said courteously as Vree swooped back in, chittering loudly. Daiirue glared at his bronze, and the flit settled on his knee, cocking his head to the side as he looked up at the girl.

"Hello little one." She smiled at the flit.

Vree preened, cooing softly at the girl in delight at being admired. He was so enthusiastic about it -and about the images of swarms of pretty green flits he was sending Daiirue- that Daiirue smiled faintly. "This is Vree. I'm Daiirue." He said quietly, taking another tiny sip.

Aidiata smiled as she looked up. "I'm Aidiata. And like you I am a candidate."

His heart did a peculiar double thud before it sank. A female apprentice _and_ a candidate. There was no hope of her forgetting he was ever here then. He gave a mental sigh that turned into a swallow. Slowly, he counted to ten, and took another sip. His stomach churned, so he hurriedly sat the glass in his lap for a moment. He turned his attention back to Aidiata, hoping he wasn't about to do something rude that would make her _really_ remember him. "I'm pleased to meet you, Aidiata." Vree crooned in agreement, looking coyly at her with whirling eyes.

His reactions to her did not go unnoticed. She smiled and pretended not to not to notice. "Do you think he would let me scratch his eyeridge?" She said wishfully.

"Sure." Daiirue held out his arm, and Vree obediently hopped up, shoving his head under Aidiata's fingers.

Aidiata smiled as she scratched his eyeridge. "He is quite soft. How did you get him? I've always wanted one."

"He was a gift for my twelfth birthingday, from my foster parents. They were trying to get me to pay more attention to my lessons."

"I'd think he would be more a distraction then anything." She chuckled.

"He was, sometimes." He admitted fondly, remembering the young and voracious Vree. "But I wasn't very interested in hold management anyway, and they knew it." Vree hummed in pleasure on his arm, and butted Aidiata's hand with his head when she stopped scratching.

Aidiata smiled and chuckled as she resumed scratching. "Well, at least you had this handsome little fellow and your craft to keep you busy."

"Yes." He said simply. Those years at Crooked Rapids before he went to the Weaver Hall were not encouraging to remember in much detail. He took another cautious sip of water, feeling it slide down his throat before hitting his stomach. His stomach started to roll, and he clamped his mouth shut, closing his eyes and taking deep breaths as he waited for it to stop. Shards, but this was not how he wanted to be seen...

"Well, I'd best be getting back to work. I'll come check in on you in a bit. Why don't you just layback and rest a bit. You don't look so good."
She smiled as she checked his pillows and everything. She stood and took the cup form his hand and placed it on the table beside his bed. "I think that's enough. Just let your stomach settle a bit okay."
