Patience Has Its Rewards

Writers: Bree, Clancey
Date Posted: 30th September 2006

Characters: Daynar, Miralani
Description: Miralani tells Daynar he must wait two entire months for her, but not without rewards.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold, Smith Hall (NPC)
Date: month 13, day 20 of Turn 3

He read the note again. And again.

".... I should have everything ready by the beginning of month 2.."

The phrase jumped out at him repeatedly. Month TWO?! But that
seemed like turns to him right now.

Now that he had decided - and paid well for her - to marry again, he was
ready to get on with it. Shards! That was MONTHS away!

Daynar's face settled in a firm line. (Little did he know..)

He would go there, right now! He would go there and convince her that he
just could _not_ wait that long.

"Scrap!!" He yelled for his canine, then, "Gerono! Saddle my riding runner!
Fast!"

Less than half a candlemark later, the growly Hallmaster was out his door
and racing for Garnet Valley Hold.

Miralani had not been oblivious to the probable reaction of her betrothed to
her carefully composed note. The idea that she would rush through wedding
preparations and be ready to wed Daynar by Turn's End was absurd, and she'd
wasted no time in telling him so. Perhaps her words had been a _little_ more
diplomatic, but not much. After all, the letter was simply a means to an
end.

Daynar would arrive and demand an explanation in person, where she'd have
access to her more persuasive arguments.

By the time Daynar was shown into her small sitting room, Miralani had
Prepared her rather extensive arsenal, including a dress that was just on
the right side of scandalous. She greeted her husband-to-be with a warm
smile and a deep curtsy that gave him an excellent view of everything her
dress showed off. "Master Daynar."

Daynar's face had been a bit red from his rush to get here and convince
Miralani they absolutely had to be wed faster than that, but when she
curtsied to him and showed off her _very_ real attributes, his entire mind,
and incidentally, any words he was going to speak, went completely blank.

Struck for a moment, he swallowed thickly and tried to compose himself.
Why, that dress was barely proper! But oh was it nice....

Some time later he put his eyes back where they belonged, and managed To
stammer, "Lady Miralani. You look stunning." That seemed to be what came
out, though what he had _meant_ to say was "What!?"

"Why thank you, Master Daynar." She gestured to a nearby chair as she closed
the door behind him. "Please, have a seat. Would you like wine, klah or
tea?"

Daynar was put completely off balance by her manner, and the firm 'thunk' of
the door shutting behind him pushed him further off balance as he found the
chair she had pointed to, but almost didn't sit quite right.

"I would like to talk to you about your note.." He managed to get out before
she did _something_ without seeming to, and he finally added quietly, "I
think I need wine.."

"Of course." She poured him a glass of wine before taking the seat next to
him with a smile. "What did you want to talk about?"

Shards! Why was it so hard to breathe all of a sudden? She was _so_ close.
He took a long sip of the wine she handed him, before turning more toward
her and struggling not to lay a hand on her knee.

"Well, I.. " He paused. "Well, I just can't hardly wait two entire months
for you, Miralani!" It came out in a rush, and the growly Hallmaster
suddenly found that it was exactly true.

Miralani widened her eyes and put on a hurt expression. "I'm not worth
waiting two months for?"

Daynar was flustered again. Staring at her, he forgot his anger in a few
deep breaths, watching her. More correctly, he was unable to take his eyes
off of her. "Of course that isn't what I mean! I mean, that well.. I just
can't _wait_. You're very tempting, Miralani." He stammered a bit, his face
turning somewhat red.

Laughing, Miralani leaned forward to place a fond hand on Daynar's knee.
"Just because it might take a few months to finalize our wedding plans
doesn't mean you won't be able to spend _any_ time with me. We've both been
married before, after all... and the betrothal contract is the _real_ issue.
The ceremony is just a formality."

Daynar watched her hand, then smiled slowly as he realized what she might mean.
"Well, we _have_ both been married before, and I would certainly not want to
deprive you of any time you need to prepare a gorgeous ceremony, suiting our
stations, yes?" He laid his hand over hers, still smiling. "How _much_ time
can I spend with you? I would love to get to know my future wife, even better."

Miralani slid her hand a little higher up the hallmaster's leg. "How about we
get to know each other a little better now, my future husband?" And with all of
the important words out of the way, Miralani set out to show Daynar the rewards
for patience.
