Cortana

Cortana

"Mind if I sit here?" Cortana asked as she slid her
lunch onto the table. On her shoulder was the
ever-present Trill keeping a watchful eye on what
else, Cortana's food.

B'vin was mildly surprised to see the weyrling. It
wasn't that he favored eating alone... it was just
that not many people wanted to sit with him. "No, go
ahead."

"Thanks." Cortana sat down. After a few moments of
akward silence, Cortana looked up from her food.
"B'vin, right?" she asked, passing a piece of meatroll
to Trill.

He was a bit annoyed the junior weyrling didn't
remember his name, but then again, he had been working
mostly with the senior weyrlings lately. He nodded,
and tried to convince himself not to label this one
'stupid' just yet. "Yes, and how is Anath today,
Cortana?"

"Fine and I'm sure your Serenth looks just as vibrant
and youthful as the day she hatched." Cortana smiled,
trying to take away the sting of her forgetfulness.
Names had never been her strong point. "She rises
soon too, if my math is right." Cortana took a moment
to feed her other flit Royal, so he would leave
Trill's alone. "What's it like?" Cortana asked, her
eyes full of question. "Flight's I mean."

For someone who didn't even remember his name, she
sure was nosy to spend the time to try and calculate
his dragon's next flight. "Actually she's probably
_not_ rising soon. She was treadscored back in the
Month 7 Fall, and hasn't risen since." he said
distainfully after chewing a mouthful of food.

"And a flight's a flight. You'll get the class on it
soon." B'vin said, dismissing that discussion. He
didn't like flights, or how they made him feel, so he
wasn't going to spend time trying to sweeten up the
experience for an annoying weyrling.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know." Cortana's face
reddened at her error. To disguise her embarressment
she gave Trill another peice of meatroll. Cortana
racked her brain for something to keep this
convesation alive. Her newfound freedom was causing
more problems than it was worth.

"So, um... are you going to Turnover?" that was a nice
safe question, she hoped.

B'vin shook his head, "No, I've got transport duty."
He'd volunteered for it actually. After what happened
at the Waterball game, he never wanted to attend
another party again, and transport duty was a good
excuse in case D'cal whined about him not going.

"Well, everyone has to do there turn I suppose."
Cortana couldn't wait until she got her chance to go
/between/ on her own. She reached down to her plate
to pick up food and noticed its sudden emptiness.
Trill and Royal were also 'mysteriously' missing.
_They didn't!_

"Well it would seem my food has been stolen." Cortana
said, standing with the empty plate. She smiled at
her flits voracious appitites. "That must mean it's
time for me to go. It was an, interesting, meal."
Cortana gave B'vin a kind wave as she left the table.
"Nice seeing you."

B'vin just grunted as she walked away, taking a rather
large mouthful of the meatroll left on his plate.
Maybe he _did_ favor eating alone
after all...
