"Hi there, mind if I sat here?" E'naer asked the young bluerider. He was holding a glass of wine and a plate full of food.
"No, please," D'cal smiled, picking up his own plate to make room for the greenrider. "Good game, by the way."
"Yes it was. I'm E'naer from Dragons Fall," the greenrider agreed and introduced himself.
"I'm D'cal, Dolphin Cove. Pleased to meet you," he said offering his hand.
E'naer had to juggle with his plate and wine a bit but managed to answer the handshake. "I noticed you during the game. You swim very well."
"Thank you. I was a seacrafter, so water is no different from dry land for me," D'cal shrugged.
"Well, that explains it," E'naer smiled.
"You seemed to have a bit of experience, though," the bluerider smiled.
"Do you play on a team?"
"Yes, I've been playing for a long time. I had a longer break after my scoring though," E'naer replied.
"It hasn't seemed to slow you down at all," D'cal said with a shrug.
"How long have you been out?"
"About half a turn or bit more, " E'naer replied.
"You seem well healed for just half a turn." D'cal was obviously impressed. It had been nearly half a turn since Dyaera had been scored.
She was still recovering from her brush Thread. Of course, to be honest, she might never fully recover... "Are you in the fighting wings again?"
"No, I'm working with weyrlings now. I'm the weyrlingmaster's third," E'naer said.
"I just graduated weyrling training myself. How do you like it?"
"I like it, it's so interresting. And bit stressful," E'naer replied.
D'cal remembered how hard Y'sani and L'pin seemed to be working. "Do the weyrlings give you much trouble?"
"Not intentionally," E'naer laughed.
"Oh, I wouldn't be so sure," D'cal chuckled. "I knew more than one weyrling who intentionally misbehaved. They paid for it later, of course."
"Well, maybe I just haven't caught them. I've not been doing it for long, so I'm bit inexperience in that matter," E'naer grinned.
"You never made trouble for your Weyrlingmasters? Not even once?" the bluerider asked curiously.
"I was a good boy. Well, I might have stretched the limits of weyrling's relationsship-ban a little bit," E'naer confessed.
"Really?" D'cal asked, rather surprised. "How far? I'm sorry, that might be too personal a question..."
"Eillispeth was sleeping, and I went and kissed with fellow weyrling, a really good looking bluerider. Then Eilli woke up and asked if I was eating him!" E'naer remisced with faraway look on his face. "We did get scolded."
D'cal could just imagine! "How close to senior weyrlinghood was that?"
"Pretty close, Eilli was already hunting her own food, if I remember correctly. It was a long time ago," the greenrider replied. The bluerider probably hadn't even been born yet, which just reminded E'naer that he was no longer young. Not old yet, but definently not young anymore. He was slowing down. In his youth, he would have been kissing
D'cal at this point.
"Oh, I don't know if it was _that_ long ago," the bluerider said with a smile. "You still seem pretty spray to me. At least out in the water."
"Thank's," E'naer grinned and stretched, moving deliberately sensously.
"You're welcome," D'cal said, a slight blush coloring his cheeks that he tried to cover behind his bottle of ale. He didn't miss the obvious movement, but he wasn't quite sure what to do about it. Since he graduated Weyrlinghood, it seemed even more greenriders, especially male, were openly flirting with him. It was still rather new. Most of
his encounters with men had been after fights with Dyaera or lost mating flights. The bluerider was still too used to hiding that side of himself to flirt openly with a man. "So where you from the Weyr originally?"
"No, I was born and grew up in Opal Cove hold," E'naer replied.
"I was Hold bred too. At Topaz Sea Hold," D'cal smiled. Sounded like they had water in common. "Did you do any sailing at Opal Cove?"
"Some, but not much. I was fifteen when mother sent me to Dragonsfalls."
"Well, I'm thinking of building a boat of these days. If you are ever at Dolphin Cove when its finished, I would be happy to take you out on it."
"I just might take you up that offer," E'naer warned good-naturedly.
D'cal smiled. "I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't ready for you take it up. But I have to warn you, it will be a while since I'll be building it on my own."
"How long does it take to build a ship?" E'naer asked curiously.
"Well..." The former shipwright did the calculations in his head. "If I worked every restday and sometimes after drills, I could probably have the kind of boat I want to make done in about two months working alone, give a sevenday or two."
E'naer whistled. "Two months? I would have guessed turns. You won't have much social life, do you?"
D'cal shrugged with a wry smile. "You can't work after dark..."
"So, what do YOU do after dark?" E'naer asked.
The bluerider let out a slightly nervous chuckle and stared down at the bottle in his hands. "Same as everyone else, I guess."
"Yhm, and what would that be?" E'naer asked with gentle, teasing tone.
"Spending time with friends," D'cal said with a self conscious smile.
"And that's a good way to spent time," E'naer replied.
"And you? What do you do in the evenings?"
"Me? Hidework," E'naer snorted.
"That doesn't sound like a lot of fun," D'cal said with a piting look.
"Sounds like you need to get out a bit more."
"So people keep telling me," E'naer grinned.
"Well, after I build my boat, you are welcome to come out a sail a bit."
