Kenaline sent Racheneth back into the water with a grin and waded to the shore, enjoying the heat of the sun against her back. She could remember the cool weather she'd left behind a few months ago at Dragonsfall all too well, and it made the warm sunshine even more enjoyable. She picked up a towel from the beach and grinned at the vaguely familiar brownrider next to her. "You're in my wing, aren't you?"
"Yeah, I'm Sh'dori and that brown lump is Rahmuth. You're new, right?" Sh'dori replied with his customary easy friendliness.
"Came in from Dragonsfall," she confirmed, tossing the towel back to the ground. "I'm Kenaline," she continued as she dropped to the ground as well and stretched out. "That recently scrubbed green beauty out there is Rachenath."
"She's is lovely, and Rahmuth's noticed it too. You know, I were in Dragonsfall too, as a young lad. Impressed Rahmuth there," Sh'dori replied. Kenaline grinned. "So you might have known my mother, then. Kenza, rider of Solith."
Sh'dori had to squeeze his memory a bit. It was turns ago after all. "I believe I've known her. How is she?" "The same she's always been," Kenaline replied with a wink. "Bossy and overprotective! I think I'll do better off over here for a few turns."
If Sh'dori remembered correctly Kenza was ten turns or more younger that he.
And she had a grown up daughter. "Shards the turns fly fast. I feel I left Dragonsfall just a few turns ago," he remarked. "Oh? How many turns ago was it?" Kenaline asked, giving every evidence of being honestly interested. "Eleven turns ago. Me and my family came here after the Earthquake, to re-open and re-populate Dolphin Cove Weyr. We liked the climate and stayed," Sh'dori replied. "The climate, hmmm?" Kenaline stretched her arms out and grinned widely.
"Shards, I think I _love_ the climate!"
"Who didn't? No snow, no cold. Well, there's hurricanes and they can be nasty but everyplace has it's downsides." Kenaline's face turned a little worried. "Hurricanes? Those don't really happen a lot, do they?" "Only a certain time of the turn and the number of them varies from Turn to turn," Sh'dori replied, trying to sound assuring. "Do they hit here?" she asked. "I mean, _here_ at Dolphin Cove? What are they like?"
"Sometimes, but those rock walls around the weyr protect us pretty well. They are frightening and exhilarating at the same time. But you can always jump to your dragon's back and go somewhere else to wait it out." Kenaline laughed. "I hadn't even thought of that! Of course, I haven't been able to go somewhere else freely for very long, yet. Sometimes I forget that I can!"
"We always have that option, unlike those poor holders," Sh'dori said and closed his eyes, letting the sun bask against his face. This was life. "I suppose we do," she replied thoughtfully, watching the dragons play in the water. This was her life now, and she was going to have to start getting used to it.
