Bronzerider Talk

Writers: Cali, Rebecca
Date Posted: 31st July 2006

Characters: S'rak, K'lvin
Description: S'rak and K'lvin wash their dragons.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 18 of Turn 3

"Good day K'lvin!" S'rak called as he saw the rider enter the water with his dragon. "Looks like all the bronzes wanted their bath this afternoon."

"Xmrenth says he has to look pretty for the ladies. I think he has his eye on Mnaiath."

"That gold does like to flirt," he said with a smile, "just warn your partner not to get his heart set."

"He will anyway, he always dose with the golds. Fortunately he forgets quickly. I wouldn't want the weyrleaders job, just so he can claim a gold mate until her next flight."

S'rak nodded, "It is a tough job, but it has it's rewards.

K'lvin was amused at the thought. "I can see rewards to leading a wing, or wingsecond but Weyrleader? Who needs the headache?"

He chuckled, "Well it's not for everyone, that's for sure. And while I wouldn't turn the position down... or be able to for that matter, I'm quite happy with my Wingsecond position."

"Good to know. How's the wing anyway?"

**Adequate** he wanted to say with the way J'nus was running things...
"Well, very well; the wing is in good shape. And yours?"

"We're doing well, only two pairs out from last fall. Neither for long." he smiled. "Did I tell you my daughters coming to the Weyr?"
He knew it had nothing to do with the wings but know that his daughter would be with him, he was looking forward to her arrival.

S'rak shook his head, he hadn't even know that K'lvin _had_ a daughter.
"Coming to impress?"

"Not for at least twelve turns, she's only a few months old."

That made S'rak chuckle, "Well yes, that would put her a bit young. Is her Ma coming to stay here at the Weyr too?"

"No." K'lvin had gotten used to the idea that Cylena was gone, but it still hurt.

He pursed his lips, "Sorry friend, I didn't mean to bring up bad memories."

"It's all right, I should get used to people asking about her mother.
I want to keep her with me as much as I can."

Trying to move to a lighter subject, "Have you got a foster mother picked out yet? I've met a couple of good ones I could recommend to you."

"Barlyse and Solokir are going to look after her for me."

S'rak didn't know them but it didn't surprise him since he had only been in the Weyr a few months, "Well that's a relief off your shoulders I'm sure." he said backing up to make sure he hadn't forgotten any spots he needed to scrub.

"It is, I know nothing about children and I'm afraid if I tried to raise her myself, I'd mess up somewhere important."

He laughed and gave the other bronerider a warm grin, "I wouldn't worry too much about that. People have been raising kids they know nothing about for thousands of turns, I'm pretty sure your girl will end up just fine."

"She'll be a healer queenrider during the intraval."

S'rak shook his head and chuckled, what grand plans parents had for their children sometimes... "With you for her father, I'm sure she will."
