A Fickle Messenger

Writers: Cali, Rebecca
Date Posted: 22nd July 2006

Characters: Aletta, F'gol
Description: Aletta asked Figol to come with her to the hatching.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 1 of Turn 3

Aletta had sent Fickle to Figol, not wanting to venture with in the hall itself. Her note asked him to meet her at the lake when he had a break. The green had returned chirping happily without her note, so Aletta assumed the young harper had gotten it.

"You know," he said, coming up behind the greenrider, "I might not have been able to get away, I _am_ only an apprentice. You might have been left her by the lake all day."

Aletta shrugged. "It's a beautiful day. Besides, your helping me train her."

He sat down next to her and smiled. "That's what I told the Journeyman when Fickle interrupted my copying in the archive room. It's a good thing he's got a firelizard too, but he asked that you not send her to me until after classes are over for the day."

"Sure. She didn't spill the ink did she?"

Figol laughed, "No, but she did become the center of attention for all the apprentices. She knew it too, the way preened as she delivered the note."

"So she acts like a hold bred snot." Aletta grinned, "I can't figure where she gets it from."

He knew he was going to get it, but she laid it out too easy... "Look in a mirror lately?"

Aletta resisted to urge to shove him in the water instead she smiled sweetly. "Well, if your going to be that way I won't ask..."

"Ask what?"

"If you wanted to attend a hatching." Aletta was hoping to talk him into petitioning to stand, but attending would be a good place to start.

Figol laughed, "I can't go to a hatching, I'm just an apprentice!" He wondered sometimes how she could keep forgetting the difference in their rank. He was pleased that it didn't _bother_ her, but still.

"Why not? All weyrfolk get to go. The Halls part of the Weyr so why can't apprentices go?"

He hadn't realized that _all_ weyrfolk get to go, he had always thought it was for holders, crafters and riders only. "Well, I guess nobody's ever invited us before."

"I'm inviting you. If Farsith and I don't pull transport we can get some good seats. If we do I'll ask Tavia to find you a good seat."

The grin on Figol's face stretched from one ear to the other, "Okay then..."

"So you want to go?"

He rolled his eyes, the grin still firmly planted on his face. Just like her for him to have to spell things out. "YES!"
