B'ram

B'ram

"You're the new transfer, aren't you? Into Hurricane Wing?" B'ram asked as he set his tray down across from the black-haired young woman.

"Mmmm." Kenaline swallowed a mouthful of klah and then set her mug aside and extended her hand. "Kenaline, rider of Racheneth. Transferred in from Dragonsfall."

"B'ram, rider of brown Girifith and greeter of pretty ladies to my wing," he smiled as he took her hand. "Dragonsfall, that's got to be different from Dolphin Cove, eh?"

"Colder," she replied automatically, as if it wasn't the first time she'd answered the question. "I don't know if I'll stay here forever, but so far it seems nice. My wingmates are certainly friendly." She flashed him a grin.

"We certainly try to be," he said, returning her grin. "Has anyone offered to show you around the Weyr yet?"

"Depends on which part of the Weyr you're talking about," she replied mischeviously, reaching across the table to snag another roll. "The men of Dolphin Cove seem absurdly proud of their weyrs, you know."

"I have to admit, I'm rather fond of my weyr. But I also know of a few very unique closets and some particularly comfortable hallways," he smiled to let her know he was teasing... sort of.

"Closets." Kenaline snorted. "What is it with closets? Personally, I've never been a fan of broom handles in my back, so I hope _you're_ not planning on trying to show me any closets."

"No, no closets," B'ram smiled. "Although we do have a storeroom or two that are famous sight-seeing spots."

Kenaline leaned across the table and lowered her voice conspiratorially.
"You know, I've always thought that variety of location indicates a lack of creativity in style. If you can't make it fun in the bedroom, a storeroom isn't going to do much."

The brownrider chuckled. "You might have got me there." Shards, he liked her. "Then again, a lack of a sense of adventure in trying something new outside the bedroom could point to a reluctance to try something new in the bedroom too. Either way it's all chance, it seems."

Kenaline laughed. "Well, you could have a point... but I, personally, just have a fondness for comfort. I've got lots of nice, soft pillows on my bed.
So much nicer than a hallway wall."

His eyebrows raised slightly. "Perhaps it is _you_ that has a fondness for your weyr?"

"Maybe," she admitted with a friendly wink. "So does your Weyr have any exciting landmarks that don't involve illicit interludes?"

"Well," B'ram began thoughtfully, "depending on the time of day there's the beach. Most of the illicit interludes happen after dark there. We have plenty of dolphins around to swim with though. They rather like the Dragons. And the Harper Hall. When they perform, let me tell you, you've never been treated to such music."

Kenaline's eyes lit up. "Are they going to perform soon, you think? I've been meaning to talk to the Harper Hallmaster about singing again, but I think it's going to be a while before I am caught up enough with drills to be able to spend time being a harper again." "There seems to always be some music going on somewhere in the evenings.
Weryharpers and Hallharpers just playing together and trying new things I guess. But they perform for Hatchings and large gatherings. Turns End and Beginning will be fantastic, I'm sure."

"I bet there's lots of dancing," Kenaline said a little wistfully. "It's been forever since I had a good dance!" "Well, I shall have to treat you to one then," B'ram said resolutely.

She peeked at him with renewed interest. "You like to dance?" "Who _doesn't_ like to dance?"

Kenaline grinned at him. "Fine, what I should have asked is, are you _good_
at dancing?" "I only rarely tread on my partner's toes," he assured her.

"Good enough for at least one dance, then." Finishing her roll, Kenaline pushed her tray back and stood. "So next time you hear some music, have Girifith bespeak Racheneth and we'll give your dancing skills a try."

"And visa versa," B'ram nodded.

"It's a deal."
