I Could Punch Him For You

Characters: V'tian, Saedyna
Description: V'tian and Saedyna meet up again
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 16 of Turn 13
Notes: Mentioned: C'pier

When Saedyna spotted the young greenrider in the Dining Cavern, she remembered she'd been meaning to talk to him. "Hey, V'tian! How are you?"

The other greenrider had been heading out, Sky and Radiance perched one to each shoulder, but at Saedyna's call, he changed direction towards her.

"... Hi." He greeted Saedyna. "I'm... all right. How are you?"

"I'm doing good. And hi to you too." She smiled at the firelizards. "So, did you talk to him?"

V'tian didn't need to ask to know who she was talking about.

He was silent for a moment, tore off off a bit of meatroll and fed it to Radiance.

"I did." he confirmed finally. "That is... we talked." He exhaled slowly. "Maybe this isn't a Dining Hall conversation. Do you... want to go out to the Lake? Or I think I have some fruity wine left at my weyr..."

If most other men invited Saedyna to their weyr she would balk, but she knew V'tian didn't have any ulterior motives. "Your weyr sounds good." And it seemed like things hadn't gone well with C'pier. She wondered if she'd have to go yell at him.

"Wine it is." V'tian responded. "Indith says our ledge is warm, too." He added. "Avarith's welcome to join her."

The green perked up when Saedyna passed on the message. }:Oh, yes! I would love to join you,:{ Avarith told Indith. She stretched and glided down to pick up her rider.

"You can ride Avarith up, if you like." Saedyna smiled. "Then Indith doesn't have to leave her nice, warm ledge."

"Thanks." V'tian responded, and took only a slight detour to swipe a few treats before he followed Saedyna out.

Avarith didn't mind taking an extra passenger and called a soft greeting to the other green as she landed on Indith's ledge. Saedyna dismounted and let V'tian lead the way inside.

Indith crooned a greeting to Avarith, and moved over to let the other green settle down on the ledge as well. }:Hello.:{ she said.

V'tian led the way in, fetched the unopened bottle of wine and two glasses. "... Sit anywhere." He told Saedyna.

Radiance flew to the table, though Sky flew to his perch, and both firelizards settled down to rest.

"So I'm guessing it didn't go well," she said as she took a seat.

V'tian slouched into the seat opposite her, broke the bottle's seal and offered it to her. "... You could say that." he allowed. "I... I might have told him to keep Yuliuth out of Indith's flights." He added. "He wasn't rude."

Saedyna sighed and started filling her glass. "Did he tell you how he felt?"

"He... said that I was special. And so was Chandrany." V'tian said, reluctant. "... He gave me a flower." He added. "I... told him I needed time. And to keep Yuliuth off of Indith. I'm... Faranth. I know it's stupid."

"It's not stupid. Relationships can be compliated at the Weyr, but he should have said something to you before." She shook her head. Saedyna had really hoped this would turn out different. "Is it that he didn't tell you earlier or is it . . . that you don't want to share?"

"I'm not an _idiot_." V'tian huffed. "I know Weyrs don't really... do the exclusive thing. I'm a greenrider anyway." He added. "Every time Indith goes up... well."

He made a face, poured himself a glass as well. "Like I told him. Maybe if he'd just _told_ me about Chandrany, _from the beginning_..." He sighed again, shook his head. "... Anyways. Like I said, I told him I wanted time to think. I'm... still deciding."

"Flights don't count," she said, somewhat absently. "I don't think Ç'pier was thinking about what he was doing. He was just . . . suprised that anyone would want him after what he did, much less two people, and didn't realize there were feelings involved." She frowned thoughtfully. "He seemed to think you weren't serious when I talked to him the first time. Maybe he expected you to like, get tired of him or something."

V'tian huffed. "T'lin said I should walk away." He responded. "I... don't know, though. Until I do figure it out, Yuliuth can keep away from Indith."

Saedyna took a long sip of wine. "It's weird, but I kind of want him to be happy."

"I..." V'tian sighed, again. "I don't... honestly know. I mean, I do _like_ him. Or... I did. But... he didn't tell me about Chandrany. Which. I know it's _stupid_, but I just... I don't know. I need to think more."

"_You_ deserve to be happy, too. More than he does," Saedyna said. "He hurt you and I don't blame you if you can't trust him. I hope you can work things out, but . . . " She shrugged. She wanted to fix this, but it wasn't like she really knew anything about relationships. She'd gone from an abusive husband to Tirraze, who was perfect and sweet and amazing.

"I hate this." V'tian said, mournful, and took another long drink. "I mean... maybe I'm overthinking, or being petty, but... I just wish this was easier."

"Feelings are complicated." She certainly had her own tangle of feelings about Ç'pier. "If you want me to punch him for you, I can do that." A little smile tugged at her lips. "Do you remember when he came to class with a black eye? That was me."

"They _are_ complicated." V'tian agreed, then sighed. "I... no. Don't hit him. Wouldn't you get in trouble?" he added. "I... I don't think it'd change how I feel, either."

"He wouldn't tattle on me," she said with complete confidence. "But let me know if there _is_ anything that would make you feel better."

"What makes me feel better is not thinking about him at all." V'tian huffed, with no heat to it. "... I've been thinking about taking Indith and going looking for the nearest Gather, soon. If, ah, you're offering to come with?"

"Oh I love Gathers!" she said. "I'll buy you something!"

"I'll be glad just for the free time. Gather food tastes pretty good." V'tian told her, and huffed amusement, echoed by a warble from Radiance and a chirp from Sky. "... Want some sweetbread? I saved some from the Dining Hall."

Saedyna smiled. "Sure." She couldn't fix his relationship troubles, but at least she could be there for him.
