}:Come stand in front of me, Helanth.:{ Roxarith invited, standing solidly in place. }:We shall look most wonderful!:{

“... Thanks.” T’thalin told Viseya, and moved to start securing and double checking Roxarith's own straps.

}:Lead us well, so that I may do the same when it is my turn.:{ Roxarith told Melciroth.

}:Then watch well.:{ was the ringing command he received back.

Now that his inspection was over, Melciroth was stretching and flexing his wings as he tested the new sensation of straps against his body. When he finally turned it wasn’t to look at Roxarith, but to see how the others were settling into formation.

E’shren stood straight and proud, awaiting inspection. Isarvyth did, too -- for a moment or two -- before shifting uncomfortably.

}:Can the straps be made lighter?:{ he asked. }:I understand they must be strong. And I can endure them. But it would be so much nicer if I couldn’t feel them at all.:{

E’shren patted his shoulder. “I don’t think they make them like that… but you’re doing so well, even though you don’t like them. Not running around with them like a canine…” The side-eye was as evident in his voice as in his face.

}:Of course not.:{ Isarvyth rolled a shoulder and sighed, then straightened again. He _did_ have an example to set.

Pumoth was losing momentum. Her ample hindquarters sank towards the ground, and her head tipped back in that familiar, dangerous way. P’yanka recognised the signs immediately. Her focus was slipping, the steady pull of sleep creeping in. He clapped her rump lightly, trying to jolt her back.

“It’s not nap time, Pumoth,” he said firmly, trying to inject some urgency. “This is important.”

Pumoth blinked slowly, her eyes whirling with mild confusion as she processed this.

}: We’re just standing. So now I’m sitting. :{

And with that unimpeachable logic, her rump settled fully to the ground--

}: PUMOTH. :{

Melciroth’s voice boomed like thunder and crackled with conviction. }: On your feet. Soon we march. You must be ready. :{

Pumoth sprang up like a well-oiled spring, the sudden rush of sheer excitement making P’yanka giddy.

}: I’m ready! I’m ready! :{

P’yanka blinked in astonishment, her sudden enthusiasm exploding through his thoughts. “All right. Good. Very good,” he muttered, grateful she was up but less than clear on what just changed.

}: Do I _have_ to? :{ Helanth whined loudly as D’ltero pressed him into position. }: I want to play with Pumoth! And Roxarith! This is marching in place thing is _boring_. :{

}: Stop being such a weenie.:{ Rath said to the other blue. He shook his wings awkwardly and the straps jingled loosely against him. He wasn't comfortable in his confinement, and kept puffing out his chest and belly to prevent Aydhara from pulling them too tight.

"Hey! Rath!" Aydhara admonished for perhaps the third time. "How many times do I have to tighten these?"

}: You don't! They fit just fine!:{ Rath cried. He tried to suck in another breath before Aydhara could pull the belly strap tighter, and was only half-successful.

“Hm.” S’ros had been pleased with most of the weyrlings’ straps; they had been more than good enough for ground drills. But it seemed Aydhara was having a touch of trouble with hers loosening. Over-oiling could cause that problem, but that was more of a Cirina thing.

}:Watch when she tightens. Rath is very clever,:{ said Iskandreth.

“Ah. You want me to have Iskandreth talk to him about it?” he asked discreetly.

Aydhara made a face at S'ros that made it clear she didn't.

L’leb was so deeply absorbed in straining to keep Aurelth’s mind busy enough not to go trying to stir things up among his classmates, he scarcely noticed when his straps were inspected. They were passable, though, so S’ros took his distance in stride.

“Alright, now that we’re mostly settled,” Viseya gave a stern glance at any stragglers, “this will be simple- you’ll make it across the field, still in formation.” The greenrider’s eyes glanced pointedly towards the hatchlings who had already started shifting in place, turning to look at siblings.

When Cirina caught her staring at Saejith, she quickly gave the blue a little bump with the back of her hand to bring his attention back forward.

“M’kadja, you’re in charge,” Viseya said before heading to Cholsinth’s side, intending to watch them from the back of her green.

}:I will play with you, Helanth, after the task we have been set is complete.:{ Roxarith said, evenly, to the blue. To Pumoth, he added, }:Match me.:{

M’kadja clapped his hands and raised his voice in the silence Viseya left. “Alright, squad. The straps may be new, but the marching isn’t. Let’s show the rest how it’s done… forward, march!” He stepped forward in stride with Melciroth and began to lead the way across the field.

}: Dumb, dumb, dumb, this is dumb, :{ Helanth sang brightly as he followed his rider, who followed the rider in front of him, who followed Melciroth’s rider.

}: Pay attention, :{ Tiareth snapped at the dimglow blue. Her mindvoice was exasperated as she spoke to her rider. }: I refuse to be in the same Wing with him when we graduate. He is an absolute waste of time. :{ Thus declared, Tiareth focused on her own marching, making certain that she did not vary one fingerlength out of position.
