**This is it, then.** H'run felt a pang of loss as he looked out over the now familiar view from his ledge at Dolphin Cove. The azure skies, the gentle sway of green treetops, the glow of dragonhide in the warm sun. The world smelled of sea salt and flowers.
Calcifeth curled beside him, his straps already on and the dragon laden down with several more bags than the solitary one that H'run had brought on his flight to Dolphin Cove. His eyes whirled a peaceful blue as he nudged his rider. }:Are you sure that you want to go back? It is very nice here. You are happy.:{
**Am I?** H'run looked at Calcifeth in surprise. **I suppose I have been.** He had friends here, good ones. He'd written music and flirted and made love with handsome men and women. He'd felt desired.
}:We could stay,:{ Calcifeth said coaxingly. }:I like the sunshine. I don't want to go back to snow.:{
**Snow is beautiful. And my closet is at home.** H'run had missed his closet. K'mai had been so kind to bring him some of his things, but it wasn't enough. **We've abandoned our Wing for long enough, darling. I do believe in duty.**
}:They can get on without us.:{ Calcifeth turned toward the weyrbowl. }:I like flying with Panitath and Vorath. They know how spectacular I am.:{
His rider snorted and lay a fond hand on his dragon's neck. **All of Pern knows how spectacular you are.**
}:True, true.:{
H'run was silent for a moment. He'd miss Dolphin Cove, but it was time to go back home. He'd run away so that his shattered heart could heal, and maybe a little because he'd hoped K'mai would chase him when he realized what he'd lost. But K'mai hadn't come, and H'run had somehow found himself content anyway, without him.
He wanted to prove to himself that he could be content at Dragonsfall, too - even if that meant leaving his people behind. With a sigh he climbed onto Calcifeth's back. The blue dragon spread his wings and slipped into the air. H'run took one last fond look over his refuge, drinking in the configuration of the Star Stones, the gentle white curve of the coast and the verdant green of the gardens, and they went /between/.
And H'run flinched as cold air raked its fangs against his cheeks and snatched the breath from his lungs. Shells, it was _cold_! Dragonsfall huddled beneath Calcifeth's wings and twinkled like stars in the dark. The moons bathed the white peaks in pastel shadows. It was beautiful, and the air could kill you.
}:Are you sure about this?:{ Calcifeth asked. }:We could go back right now and nobody would know that we ever were here.:{
The dragon on watch chose that moment to bugle a welcome. H'run felt his heart sink. **Let's go home,** he said. 'Home' tasted frosty on his lips. Perhaps this was another mistake in a long string of them, but he was here now and H'run was determined to not be a quitter.
