Description: Zavallan and Ithralos catch up now that they're both at the Weyr.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 12
Notes: Notes: Pre-Jossenth's hatching
Fried tuber slices and hot klah were Ilthralos' two main motivators for making through the morning routine with a squirmy toddler and a sleep-starved brain trying to fire up for the day's work. Ithianne was a morning creature by habit, and it was getting increasingly harder for him to wrangle her and the tray of food for them both. Especially when she desperately wanted the bowl of redfruit slices precariously perched on the tray along with klah and toast.
"Gotta sit first, beanie." Ilthralos said around a yawn. "Do you see a seat?"
It was more a rhetorical question than anything, but she abandoned her quest to grab at the food to look around the cavern. Ilthralos wasn't looking anywhere in particular, but he caught sight of a surprisingly familiar face and made a vtol-line to the empty seats across from him.
“Well, I'll be. Zavallan? What Searchrider let you in?” He teased as he set the tray down and plopped Ithianne onto a seat, quickly sliding the redfruit slices in front of her.
“One with poor judgement, apparently,” Zavallan replied with a smile for Ithralos. “Good morning, little one,” he said to the toddler.
"Hi! I'm Ithianne." Ithianne chirped. She smiled brightly up at them, pleased to have the attention, and reached for the fruit slices.
"I thought you were still working on your research? Have you decided to take a break?" Ilthralos asked.
“I’m _always_ researching,” Zavallan said. “I just decided I would have more information for my research if I was at the Weyr.” The Candidate watched as Ithianne inhaled a fruit slice. “What about you? How are things here for you and Vianne?”
Ilthralos blew on his klah before taking a grateful sip, watching Ithianne smear redfruit juice across her face with the resigned patience of a parent who knew a napkin was a losing battle. "It's…going." he admitted, "It's good to be near my foster-parents again, and 'anne likes spending time with them. She's settled in a lot faster than I thought. She's learning all the dragon names."
"Lose-th is the biggest." Ithianne announced on cue, and Ilthralos pursed his lips to push back a laugh.
"And you must've seen Vianne by now. She's been Standing since we arrived. I think Jossenth is going to be her third clutch?"
“Is she getting anxious, then?” Zavallan asked. This was his first time Standing, and he didn’t even really consider Impressing a possibility. It was more of the scientific research behind the entire process that he was interested in.
"Not that she's said. More excited than anything, I think. She has another turn and a half until she ages out. There's another three or four hatchings left, depending on when each queen goes up again." Ilthralos said. "What about you? Excited for your first hatching?"
“Absolutely,” Zavallan confirmed. “I only wish I could take my notebook down onto the Sands with me. I don’t wish to be trampled by a dragonet, however. I’ll just have to keep clear mental notes about the entire process.”
"We have some printers that'll be taking notes from the Stands." Ilthralos added, "We usually do a short description for news. Colour distribution and any notable pairs-- usually the bronzes and any well known weyrkids. We did a little splashy piece for Cyradis' last kid that Impressed."
“Reporting from the Stands and reporting from the _Sands_ are not the same,” Zavallan countered. “Hopefully, it will be so memorable I’ll easily be able to record everything accurately once I get back to the barracks.”
"Of course not. A firsthand account would be great. But don't stress about getting all the details down that you miss it." Ilthralos said.
Zavallan waved off the warning. He wasn’t going to miss a thing. He was going to record every single detail.
