The humming reverberated through the Weyr. }:My hatchlings come!:{
Loseth announced to both his rider and Talryne. N'vanik smiled at the
unnecessary comment and got up from his desk. There had been yet
another attack by the anti-Weyr holders only a few months ago so
N'vanik was concerned about security, but he was determined _not_ to
focus on it. Hatchings were supposed to be celebrations, not a source
of anxiety.

}:Yes, good. You understand. We have many eyes to watch, and no one
will hurt them.:{

The Weyrleader passed through the doorway to his weyr, and then into
his sleeping room. He'd just started dressing when Talryne arrived.
She slid her arms around him from behind and kissed his cheek. "It's
going to be a good day."

"I know." He leaned against her for a moment, taking in her strength.

}:Warroth is coming,:{ Loseth said with unmistakable warmth.

"You just watch the flirting," N'vanik said aloud for Tal's benefit.
"You're supposed to be focused on your mate today."

}:I can have two mates, just like you.:{

N'vanik tried not to think about that too hard, because he was sure
Loseth wasn't talking about Cyradis.

In a short while he was fully dressed in his dark blue suit, the torc
Cyradis had given him gleaming around his neck. He gave Tal a kiss and
hurried over to Cyradis's weyr. "Ready, my lady?"

She smiled as he came in to escort her to their box. Her pale green
dress fell nearly floor length but the narrow skirt was split to just
above the knee. The sweetheart neckline framed the fine necklace he'd
given her at the last hatching. Her smile grew as she saw the torc
around his neck.

N'vanik bent to kiss her. "You look stunning. Shall we?" He offered his arm.

She gave him a sunny smile and threaded her hand through his arm.
"Thank you kind sir," she said. "I do like this suit on you," she
added. "Did you pick it out or was it Tal's idea?"

"It was a collaboration. Her dress is in matching colors." His warm
smile was both for Cyradis and for his weyrmate. "She'll be at the
Feast." He led his Weyrwoman through the doorway out to the Hatching
Grounds, which were already filling with people and dragons.

A big smile spread across Cyradis' face both for N'vanik and Talryne
and for the gathered crowd. Eggs were already rocking so they quickly
took their seats as the candidates filed onto the sands. Some appeared
very nervous and she remembered when she'd walked out onto the sands
and Panitath had found her. She squeezed N'vanik's hand. "Remind you
of anything?"

The Weyrleader chuckled. "I had no idea a bronze was waiting for me."
Some part of him had hoped, but he hadn't been sure any dragon would
choose him that day.

Then his attention was drawn by a large crack. "Oh look!" N'vanik pointed.

"Oh! Bronze," she almost squealed. "That's"

}:Revianth.:{ Panitath interrupted her. **Yes love**

"I think his name is Byllaver or something like that," she started.
Then with another audible crack a
green stumbled out of her shell and nearly ran over the bronze in her
hurry to get to her chosen candidate. "Aicha," Cyradis pronounced with
satisfaction. "Ah, Luranth is lovely," she added.

N'vanik smiled at the little hatchling and her new rider, the young
woman beaming with the joy of Impression. "She is a pretty one."

Several more dragonets appeared, stumbling and creeling as they
searched for their lifemates. A blue made his way toward one of the
newer Candidates, a stiff looking young man. "Braxialth!" rose over
the noise of the Hatching Grounds.

Then another bronze appeared, his head swiveling as he shook off the
last bits of shell. He was uncertain for a moment, then his gaze
locked on someone and he waddled quickly on unsteady legs toward a
small group of Candidates. Ryvankal seemed to be trying to draw the
attention of a brown when the bronze hatchling barreled into him,
knocking him over. N'vanik tensed, fearing an injury, but no blood
showed on the white robes as Ryvankal got to his knees. Their eyes
met, and Impression was made. The cheers drowned out the new
bronzerider's voice. }:Indrath,:{ Loseth told his rider with warm
pride.

"Indrath," N'vanik repeated to Cyradis. "He looks good and strong."
His chosen rider was older, which the Weyrleader hoped would make them
a steady pair.

Cyradis smiled on the pair. "A good strong bronze is a good thing,"
she said. She watched as another impression was made. Then her head
whipped around to the little egg that seemed to explode all at once
and reveal a brown!

"Brown?" She looked at N'vanik. Yes, he was a bit small but he had a
big attitude as he seemed to almost strut directly for Palixan. He
didn't stumble, well at least until he got where he was going and then
his steam was gone and he fell on his face. "Oh my," she chuckled. "He
knows what he wants," she said as P'xan bent over the little brown and
once their eyes met... "Kovashoth," he announced to the applauding
crowd.

As the final eggs hatched and the little dragonets found their
lifemates she couldn't help but feel the disappointment of those left
on the Sands. She stood and applauded for those who'd Impressed and
those who would try again.

N'vanik clapped with her and then pulled his Weyrwoman into a kiss.
"They all did well," he said with a grin. No maulings, no poisoning,
no attacks. Loseth's pride added to his own, his chest swelling as he
watched the last few pairs make their way off the Sands. "Let's go
meet the new weylings."
