K'mai

K'mai

Sitting down in the sand, K'mai stretched and gave a relaxed sigh. Sebeth's bath was over and now he could spend a little time lounging. He saw a shadow and turned. "Hi, Shayla!" he called as the young greenrider passed close to him.

She paused, shading her eyes against the sun to see him. "Oh--hey, K'mai," she smiled, turning to head over to him. Shayla pulled the towel a little more firmly around her hips before she settled down into the sand next to him. "Just finished bathing your gorgeous blue, huh?" Ever since coming to the Weyr, the greenrider had grown from a young, shy girl into a more confident, self-assured young woman. Impressing Kiranth had been the most prominent reason behind the change, but being with T'voal had helped too.

"Yes indeed," he said. "And what are you up to, dear greenrider?"

Once she would've blushed at any sort of "pet-name", but now she just grinned at him and gestured to the lake. "I just finished bathing Kiranth, but she wanted to stay in there and socialize. That's her between those two blues and that brown."

"She's grown into a very lovely green. I was disappointed to lose her Flight." Waking up to Shayla would certainly have been pleasant.

At that, she _did_ blush. A little. The memory of the mating flight was still strong--and the outcome it. "Well, you know...Sebeth could always rise after her again." Though next time, she wanted T'voal to win.
Trying to shove away her shy embarrassment, she turned her face to his with an impish little grin. "And see if he gets lucky."

"I hope so." He leaned toward her just a bit. "I would hate to miss out twice in a row."

"You would? Or Sebeth?" she heard herself asking, her expression still impish.

"Both of us," K'mai said. "But unlike my lovely blue, I don't have to wait until a mating flight."

At that she dropped her eyes. "Mmm...yeah. We're lucky that way, aren't we?" **What are you _doing_, Shayla, flirting with him like this?**

The bluerider shifted toward her. "Do you think maybe we could try our luck together sometime?"

She glanced up at him, her cheeks slightly flushing anew. "We hardly know each other, K'mai," she told him lightly, trying to brush off the sudden, conflicting feelings running through her. He was hardly the first young man other than T'voal who'd expressed that he wouldn't mind taking her to bed, but even still....

**That doesn't matter.** "We could get to know each other better first. I said 'sometime', not tonight," K'mai teased.

The color in her cheeks darkened a little more. "I...also have a weyrmate..."

"Mmmm, yes . . . that handsome brownrider. Maybe you could get him to join us," the bluerider said with a mischievous smile. He was purely teasing now.

That got her to look up at him, and she grinned, shaking her head. "I don't think he likes to share."

He frowned, pretending to pout. "Well, that's a shame. He should learn to be less selfish."

"Or maybe you should learn to be less persistant?" She gave him a smile, her brow raising.

"Oh Shayla, I'm far too old to make such a drastic personality change,"
K'mai said, smiling.

He really was handsome, she thought. Especially when he smiled. She knew of his reputation of course--who didn't? And with him making comments like this... Shards. "It would be drastic?"

The bluerider nodded. "Mm-hmm. Persistance is one of my best virtues, along with being handsome and charming."

She peeked at him through her lashes. "And how far would you be willing to go...to be so persistant?"

K'mai brushed a hand against her thigh, lightly. "You'll just have to wait and see, won't you?"

She flushed. She couldn't tell now what was teasing, and what was to be taken seriously...but she had a feeling that hand touching her thigh was _not_ a tease. Well, not the kind of tease she was thinking of! **That's it, Shayla. You've gone too far....** She shifted her leg away from him.
"I..." She glanced up at him.

"Don't be so shy," he said. "If you think I'm going too far, just tell me.
Or give me a good slap. I'll get the message." K'mai laughed.

All of it was going too far! What had gotten into her? Maybe some of it was harmless...flirting... She made herself grin at him. "It's hard for me _not_ to be shy...about certain things..." Especially when it wasn't _T'voal_ talking to her and looking at her like that.

"I have to admit, it is very cute." There was just something about shy girls, or boys for that matter, that made them just as appealing in their own way as the flirty ones.

Blushing, she gathered her legs beneath her and pushed herself up from the sand. She needed space. "Now that's quite enough out of you, K'mai.
Each comment you make is going to make me turn redder each time!"

"Alright Shayla." He also stood. "I'll take my flirting somewhere else . .
. for now." K'mai smiled and gave her a little bow.
