Satisfaction and pride filled him, and N'vanik was still half asleep
when Loseth confirmed, }:Panitath knows I'm the best.:{ He opened his
eyes to find his small, strong Weyrwoman beside him. A soft smile
curved his lips and he brushed her hair aside to start kissing along
her neck.
"Mmm," Cyradis stretched like a feline and extended her neck to give
him better access. "That was a lovely flight," she murmured.
"Always is." He kept kissing, an arm sliding around her waist. "And I
get to wake up to a lovely woman." A Weyrleader never had guarantees,
but Loseth had been consistent in catching Panitath for Turns, and
with their riders also getting along there was no reason to think the
Queen would change her mind. Still, it was a relief.
"Yes it is," she said. **Except at the beginning,** she thought. But
there was zero point in bringing up their rough start. Now, they were
an excellent team and the Weyr ran smoothly under their joint
leadership. She turned in his arms and offered a very warm kiss. "I'm
very glad it's you again," she added.
He returned the kiss, a hand sliding down her back to settle on her
hip. "I'm glad you're still here." That she hadn't abandoned him like
Traelyn and Janani. That something tragic hadn't happened like with
poor Kapera.
"I can tell," she chuckled at the hard evidence against her thigh as
she pulled herself closer. "and I can't think of anywhere else I'd
rather be."
N'vanik pulled her into a kiss, the dragonlust heating his blood. She
really was beautiful, he thought as he lowered his head to suck on one
of her nipples.
Her fingers threaded into his sun bleached locks as she arched into
him and a groan started deep in her throat. She threw her leg across
his waist and clung to him as the tension built in her core.
He rolled her onto her back and kissed his way down her body. "Gonna
make you fly a few more times." He grinned and nudged her leg up,
pressing his lips to the inside of her thigh.
She chuckled and compiled even though her brain was rapidly receding.
"Our flights are always quality," she agreed to his plan before she
lost all capacity for words and leaned into the sensations. He knew
her body and could play it like a musical instrument.
N'vanik eventually ended up sprawled half on top of her, a light sheen
of sweat on his skin. When he had enough breath, he kissed softly
along her shoulder. "I love you," he said quietly. "As your
Weyrleader, as your friend, maybe a little something more. I know I
can't give you what you need from a man, but . . . I'm here for you."
Cyradis was a strong woman but he knew she was still aching from
K'deren's abandonment.
"I love you too," she said and kissed his temple at the corner of his
eye. "You are a strong and caring man and lucky for us, in the Weyr we
have room for more than just one in our hearts." Of course it was a
different kind of love from what she felt for D'hol or even what she
had felt for K'deren or N'lon. "And don't worry," she smiled. "I'll be
fine."
"Should I start looking for eligible bronze and brownriders?" he
teased. "Might be fun if I start asking potential transfers if they're
single."
She giggled and gave the back of his head a playful slap. "Too soon,"
she said through her laughter. "I can find my own potentials, thank
you very much."
"They should be linin' up for you." He skimmed a hand down her arm.
"Hmm. More room in our hearts, that's what it feels like. I used to
fight so hard to keep people out, but when I let someone in, my heart
just seems to get bigger."
She nodded and snuggled closer to him, feeling her own heart opening
just a little wider. "You know? That is what my mother told me about
children. Your heart just makes more room for each one."
He stroked her hair. "It was like that with Cyranik, and even little Nievan."
"I like that about you N'vanik," she said. "You're very suspicious and
protective and yet underneath, you have a very big heart."
