Description: N'kevyn greets the new transfers
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 1, day 3 of Turn 12
N'kevyn had grumbled when Aydhan shooed him off to greet the new transfers. It had the air of being another 'play date' she was trying to set up. Unfortunately for him, his natural curiosity won out over any attempt to be sulky, and after only a little grumbling, he did in fact head out to where the newest members of Barrier Lake Weyr were moving.
He had Avicath call ahead to the new green. }:Do you need any help? My rider has been sent to see if he can help yours,:{ the bronze informed Reanth as his rider headed towards their weyr.
Reanth was enjoying her new view. Jaylene had picked a nice large weyr that was close to the docks, so Reanth could indulge in her curiosity about the boats. When the bronze spoke to her she glanced over her shoulder into the weyr and the countless boxes. }:We're going to need all the help we can get:{ Really, how could people have so much stuff?
Well, that seemed like enough of an invitation, and the bronze made a quick trip to drop off his rider. "Hello, I thought I could lend a hand," N'kevyn said as he hopped down to the ledge. "Move some furniture around if you need it. I'm N'kevyn, Aydhan's weyrmate. Seemed polite since she poached you for her wing," he was grinning at his own joke.
Avicath quickly departed, as if fearing he'd somehow be roped into helping, despite the boxes already being there.
Reanth sighed, hoping for new company. Jaylene straightened from bending over a box to greet the newcomer. "My green is sad at your bronze, she was hoping to flirt." She grinned and pointed at a big box of books. "I need those to go to my brother J'nne's weyr, if you're up for it. He's helpfully completely across the Weyr from me."
"Well, I'd recommend she save her energy for a bronze smart enough to flirt back, but she's welcome to join him, he's still nearby. I didn't want him getting in the way up here. Although...I could call him back to take that box across the Weyr. Are there others that need going?" N'kevyn ignored the mental squawk of protest at the idea that he might use Avicath as a beast of burden. Again.
**I'm sure this nice green will be impressed by you showing off your abilities. You are the best at moving heavy things.**
}:Well yes, I'm the best at a lot of things,:{ Avicath sounded cautious, as if he were aware there might be a trap here.
"He's willing to help if there are."
“Oh, great!” Jaylene looked around at the boxes and pointed to three of them. “Those ones need to go to J’nne. You sure it’s okay? He rides bronze too, so Tribeth can always come and get his stuff.”
"Avicath will hate it, but it's good for him to have a little hardship in his life," N'kevyn said cheerily enough. "Let me get him back." He went over, checking the boxes, hefting them to see how awkward it was going to be to get them fastened on the bronze. "Anything particularly breakable in these?"
The bronze was grumbling irritably as he returned to the green's weyr, though he made an attempt to land as gracefully as he could in front of her. Which wasn't particularly graceful, considering his size. }:I am not a beast of burden.:{
Reanth snorted her option of that. }:You could mention that to your lifemate:{
}:He does not listen. He thinks I need to do things,:{ Avicath grumbled.
"It's for your own good. You're still a little plumper than you were when we got here," N'kevyn said as he was manhandling the box up onto his bronze.
"Oh dear, I'm sorry Avicath!" Jaylene put her hand over her mouth so the poor bronze couldn't see her laughing. But he did look so very put upon.
}:Don't worry, you still look handsome,:{ Reanth added helpfully.
}:Of course,:{ Avicath agreed with the green with absolutely no modesty.
N'kevyn was laughing as he directed his bronze across the weyr to the younger bronze's weyr. Avicath landed and looked around curiously as N'kevyn hopped down with the box. "Hello, new person. Your sister sent me over with a box."
}:This is a nice view.:{ Avicath complimented.
}:Thank you, I rather like it:{ Tribeth blinked at the newcomer, not in the least bit upset with being the smaller of the two bronzes.
J’nne looked up from where he was unpacking. “Oh, hello.” He stood up and held out his hand, smiling. “I’m J’nne, Jaylene’s brother. That’s Tribeth out there.” He saw the boxes. “So what’s where they went! I’ve got some of Jaylene’s stuff too.”
}:We always have to have a ground weyr, but the breeze is nicer too.:{
"Well, if you want, I can take whatever you have back over." Honestly, ferrying boxes between the two was less work than the furniture moving Aydhan had volunteered him for. "I'm N'kevyn. The big lump who is definitely jealous of your view is Avicath."
“Hi Avicath, try not to push Tribeth off the ledge.” Indeed, the two bronzes could barely fit on the narrow ledge. To N’kevyn he said, “It’s just these four boxes.” He lifted one up. “Don’t worry, they’re mostly clothes and some blankets, nothing too heavy.”
N'kevyn laughed, "No worries there. Avicath is used to tight spaces. You should see our weyr when it's him, Tymborikath, and whatever other bronzes or browns she's entertaining that day. If you want to hand me up those boxes I can take them back for you and we'll get out of your hair."
"Cheers for that." J'nne followed the older bronzerider back out to the ledge where the two dragons were. He put one box down and fetched another. "I think this'll do."
"Well, welcome to the Weyr, I'm sure we'll see you around," N'kevyn strapped one box in place but took the other in his hands, directing Avicath to head back to the greenrider's weyr. The big bronze gave a long suffering sigh before he took off from the weyr ledge, winging across the Weyr to land gently on the green's ledge again.
"I return with other boxes," N'kevyn said cheerfully. "It seems your brother had some of yours, as well. I take it packing was a little chaotic?"
“Life with us is pretty chaotic,” Jaylene laughed, taking the first box. “Ahhh…so that’s where they were.” She held up a pretty dress. “Sadly, it’s a winter dress, I probably won’t need it much here.”
"I've been told that it gets 'quite chilly', so I haven't thrown out all my winter gear yet. You might get some use out of it. It would be a pity to waste such a nice dress," the bronzerider said. He could certainly appreciate fashion.
“Have you been here long?” Jaylene had caught his suggestion that he hadn’t been through a winter here yet. But maybe she was wrong. Carefully she folded the dress and placed it on a spare part of table that wasn’t covered by books, blankets and a violin case.
"No, just a few months. I moved with Aydhan from High Reaches. It'll be strange to have a winter without heavy snow," N'kevyn mused as he looked around the chaos of unpacking. "Was there any other help you needed, or should I get out of your way? Aydan thought you might need some furniture moved when she volun-told me to come."
“Tell you what,” Jaylene said as she pulled a bottle of wine from a box where it had been carefully stashed. “I’ll free you from being my assistant if you promise to bring yourself and Aydhan back this evening for a glass of wine. Is that a deal?” She grinned at N’kevyn.
"Deal," N'kevyn said, "just let Avi know when you're ready."
