Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 12, day 1 of Turn 3
Benamil was in his haven again, working out in the stables. There was just something more comforting about the place than even his room up in the Hold. The stables spoke to him of home- of a small measure of freedom. Here, he at least felt at ease.
He was humming tumelessly to himself, grooming one of the best runners of the stable- a tall black creature whose deep chest and long legs were a testament to his endurance and speed. Benamil had high hopes for the stallion's performance in future races. He picked up the runner's hoof and began methodically cleaning it out of the mud he'd picked up during their morning exercise in the yard.
"Hello Benamil" Peryen smiled sweetly. She'd followed him to the stables, hoping to get him alone. She knew her sister's father in-law had not chosen an heir, if she could hook this son, she might end up lady of Amber Hills.
"Oh...er...ah...hello." He looked up, still holding the runner's hoof and the pick he was using to clean it.
"He's beautiful." she said, she thought it was something he'd want to hear, even if she knew nothing about runners.
"Oh. Well..I suppose he is." Benamil let the runner's hoof down, and shuffled around the creature to work on the next one.
"Do you ride often?" Peryen could hear someone else enter the stable and smiled, he wouldn't dare be seen leaving a runners stall with a lone woman.
"Er...whenever I have the chance, truly." Inwardly he groaned. He was trapped, and continued to busy himself with the grooming routine. He worked at the hoof, trying to dislodge a small stone caught between the shoe and the hoof itself, it had to come out, or else it would cause lots of problems later.
"I hope you don't think this forward of me sir, but would you like to go ridding this evening? My sisters speaks so fondly of your hold, I would like to see more of it."
Riding? In the evening? "Er...we'd have to get a group together like.
I...ah...can't just take you around alone, you know. It wouldn't be...proper, you know?" Benamil let the runner's hoof down, and stood up, dusting his dirty hands off on his pants.
"I think a ride would be wonderful, let me tell Pyrnn." Royan said from the entrance to the stall. He flashed his brother a knowing grin. Benamil managed to smile at his brother. "Oh...er...well and good then."
Peryen ground her teeth, scorch that man!
Benamil looked back and forth between both his brother and the lass, somewhat at a loss. "How..er...many of us ought to go?" Royan would want to do this tonight, doubtless so that Benamil wouldn't get the chance to weasel his way out of it.
"It think the four of us would be enough, don't you Peryen?" he asked his sister in law.
"Wonderful, she replied flatly.
Well...at least it wouldn't be an entire routine. "Er...shall I get the runners ready, then?"
"Please do brother, I'm sure Peryen could help you." For her part the woman in question wanted to strangle her brother in law. How dare he!
"Oh...here I can get them ready. No need for the lady to get all dirty and such like."
Peryen smiled sweetly at Benamil. "Thank you, I do believe I'll go change." she brushed past Royan, shooting him a dark look.
Benamil watched her go, then looked at the runner, who flicked an ear at him and stamped his hoof, as if to say he hadn't a clue either.
Finding no help in that department, he looked at his brother. "Women." was all Royan would say. "A candle mark enough time for you to get four runners ready?"
"Oh...um...surely..." A candlemark! That wasn't nearly enough time to mentally prepare for this little excursion. But Benamil knew that look in his brother's eye. He didn't have a choice.
"Then I'll see you in a candlemark little brother, do try to clean up a little."
"Oh...er...surely..." Clean up? Now here...when had a little dust and dirt hurt anyone? Benamil wiped his hands on his pants, then realized his pants were just as dirty as his hands. "I'd best hurry then. If you'll excuse me?" He had a lot of work to do....
"See you soon little brother." Royan laughed.
