It was late, and Jaylene had planned on bringing Lafael to Dolphin
Cove in the morning, but Reanth bespoke dragons there and they knew a
hurricane was coming later the following day. So, even though she
didn’t want to as it didn’t give Lafael enough time to fully digest
what was happening, she had no choice but to pack the young man up and
put him on the back of her wise green.

“I am sorry fella,” she said to him as she got into position in front
of him and began adjusting the straps. “But there’s bad weather coming
and we don’t have a lot of time. It’s better to just go now before it
hits, than wait in case it’s a bad one and risk not being able to
Stand there.”

Lafael shuddered, all too well remembering the destruction a hurricane
could bring. Just the thought that he was flying directly into the
wrath of one made him shiver. At least he had had one last lovely
evening with Jaylene and her family, having a big dinner in the
Dinning Hall and even joining in with the dancing from J’nne’s fiddle
afterwards.

J’nne patted Lafael on the foot from where he stood beside Reanth.
“All the best, Lafael. You know you always have a family here.” He
gave one last wave and stood back as Reanth sprung into the night sky.
Lafael looked over his shoulder and gave a wave. Before he could
think, Reanth took them /between/.

The sky was just beginning to lighten at Dolphin Cove as they blinked
out of /between/. Unlike Dragonsfall, which overlooked a high plateau,
this Weyr sat almost on the ocean. Lafael began shivering again as he
took in the brooding darkness still far off shore that could only be
the hurricane.

}:Maybe it won’t be too bad,:{ Reanth reassured him. She too shivered,
as hurricane to her was all that had happened to her beloved River’s
Buff. Even with her dragon’s short memory, that had burned into her
being.

Quickly, she flew low over the bowl of the Weyr, so none of them could
see the hurricane anymore. There were two buildings on their own along
the far aside of the bowl and that’s where she landed.

“I hope someone in the Weyrlingmaster ranks is awake,” Jaylene
muttered as she slid down Reanth’s shoulder and then turned to help
Lafael down. They both stood by the green as Reanth called out to the
three Weyrlingmasters’ dragons, hoping one would answer.

J'lor was normally an early riser, typically getting up when the sun
came up. **Let them know I'm on my way.** he told Luruth. Then he
walked out of the candidate barracks and toward the visiting green.

"Hi Jaylene,” he smiled as he got closer. He hadn't left Dragonsfall all
that long ago and knew most riders. He'd been a wingrider there for
several turns. "I'm Weyrlingmaster Third here."

Jaylene grinned when she recognised the rider. “J’lor, so lovely to
see you!” She rushed over to give the bluerider a kiss on the cheek.
“You handsome man, how’re you doing? I didn’t know you landed the
Weyrlingmaster 3rd role.” She gave him a playful slap on the arm and
grinned. Shards, he was always the pretty one.

J'lor put his arm around the greenrider and pulled her against his
side. "Lovely as ever Jaylene," he smiled. "Luruth thinks Reanth is
lovely in the morning." He chuckled.

"And you're Lafael right? Welcome to Dolphin Cove." He held out his hand.

Lafael took the offered hand, smiling shyly. Maybe it wouldn’t be as
bad here. The Weyrlingmaster seemed nice.

Even though she knew J’lor knew Lafael’s name, Jaylene still gave him
a little formal introduction. “J’lor, this is Lafael. He can hear
dragons and has been Standing at Dragonsfall for two turns now but,
unfortunately, we won’t have another Hatching before he ages out, so
M’thos gave me permission to bring him over here to try his luck with
your queen’s eggs.” She gave a wary look up to the sky. Already the
wind was picking up. “I hate to drop the lad off and run, but I don’t
want to be stuck here for the hurricane.” She could feel some of the
bad memories of that horrible day at River Buff trying to break down
the thick wall she had built around her heart when it came to the
Weyr. “I…I need to go,” she murmured in a low voice that held a touch
of panic.

J'lor smiled and nodded. Any rider worth his salt knew who any HAD
were around him and he'd lived at Dragonsfall up to only a few weeks
ago. "You'll want to talk to Briata," he said to the young man.
"You'll likely hear about her from the dragons if you haven't already.
She can hear all dragons too. She can tell you which will welcome your
talking to them and which will no. Luruth is friendly and happy to
chat.”

Lafael nodded and tried to take in everything the man said. His mind
was still in a bit of shock to take everything in. He could also sense
that Jaylene seemed stressed.

}:It’s the hurricane, she saw many bad things once. I need to take her
away.:{ The last bit Reanth said to both Lafael and to Luruth. She’d
have to come back another day for a bit of flirting with the handsome
blue.

J'lor pulled her around and looked into her eyes. "Jaylene," he said
mildly. "Are you having difficulty? Do you need to go? I can take
Lafael from here or you can come up to my weyr to ride out the storm.
It is inside the bowl and very safe."

“Yeah, it’s too much like River Buff…I need to go.” She gave J’lor a
hug and turned to Lafael, pulling him into her arms for a big sister
hug. “You do your best here, okay? I’ll be back to watch the Hatching,
we all will. Sorry to leave you here but I need to get away from the
storm.”

Lafael returned her hug, trying to be brave as she mounted her dragon
and Reanth took to the air.

}:Be strong Lafael:{ the green said.

"Let's get under cover Lafael," J'lor said and put his arm around the
slim shoulders guiding him toward the Weyr entrance and the safety it
provided.
