Brennault

Brennault

When Brennault at last made it back to the Weyr, he wasted no time. Packages and letters having been delivered to their recipients, he immediately sought out A'vel.

"Hey, buddy. Find Tsogath and tell her we're home and want to talk to A'vel." He showed images of the green and her rider to Marvel.
However, he refused to go until he had eaten and gotten in a proper jostle-free snuggle with Brennault.

Nevertheless in good spirits, Brennault tried again once the hungry firelizard had enjoyed his lunch, and Marvel popped between to show images of A'vel speaking to Brennault to Tsogath along with an inquisitive feeling.

A'vel was just practicing music, so he told Tsogath she could tell Marvel. Tsogath sent the firelizard an image of a room in the lower caverns, hoping the firelizard could accurately relay the location.

Marvel could not quite convey enough information to get the point across to Brennault exactly where A'vel was, so he simply led him there instead.

When he arrived, he waved and smiled brightly, not wanting to interrupt the music.

A'vel set down the lyre. "Hi Brennault! I was just practicing for my Turn's End pieces. How are you doing?"

"I'm doing fantastic!" said the runner. "It sounds great so far. Anything good happen while I was away?"

"Tsogath was caught by a brown. Better than her bronze obsession I guess, but...well I'd had a good time with a bluerider before that." He blushed a little. "Other then that, just my practice quarter actually getting invited up for Turn's End. Will you be here?"

"I'm planning to!" Brennault put his arm around A'vel. "Are you alright? He didn't hurt you or anything, did he? Or did he just leave
you a touch unsatisfied?"

"Oh, no, I'm fine about it. I just think it's interesting watching her diversify is all. The preferences of dragons are very mysterious."

"Dragons seem fairly mysterious in general." Brennault straightened. "One of the many things I love about them." He grinned. "I know it's tacky to immediately waltz up and start asking you for favors, so can I take you to dinner?"

"I love the idea of dinner," A'vel said. "Though you can still ask for the favor now."

"Well, you've probably guessed I've been seeing someone out on the trail," said Brennault. "But I haven't mentioned it because I've had to keep the whole thing as secret as I can. It's... basically a life-ruining situation if it gets out. Not that I think you'd blab. And that's why I'm asking you for the favor. He wants to come to the Weyr. But we need to coordinate a ride for him, and a bit of privacy.while we're here. Do you think you could help with that? I'll get you anything you need, too, of course."

A'vel's eyes widened. "Ohhh, that's some kind of gossip indeed. I can absolutely help you out with that, and give the ride. If you need a place to stay..." he tapped his chin thoughtfully. "And I could let you have my weyr overnight. Sleep on a couch."

"Wow, I'd owe you big time!" Brennault's eyes mirrored A'vel's. "You don't want a sword, do you?"

"I have no idea what I'd do with one. Honestly, I don't really want for too much. I can go wherever I want. I could use marks for new.instruments, but..." he mused aloud. "Honestly, I want to help just
because I want to help. You're my friend. I get to be free here at the Weyr, be myself and look for the love I expected. I want to give you the option for it yourself."

"I don't think I could get everything together again to get another one made even if you wanted one," Brennault chuckled. "But I bet I
could figure something out for new instruments." He touched A'vel's arm. "I'm really glad we're friends."

"I'm glad too. Although you may regret it when you learn about the prices of even small folk harps," he teased.

"Better not to know! If I'd have known how much work the sword would be, I probably wouldn't have promised to do it." Brennault laughed.

"Do you think I could earn marks performing at the station as opposed to doing it for fun? Or do you know anywhere on your routes that would take a harper's performance for marks? Though...maybe I'd need to wear just harper's knots. Some places might not be safe for riders..." he thought aloud.

"Oh, my dad would absolutely hire you. You're amazing," said Brennault. "And you can wear your rider's knots at the station. It's safe there."

"See, helping me earn marks at safe places will be a good reward." A'vel gently poked Brennault's shoulder. "Do you want to get food and talk about him?"

"Absolutely I do." Brennault offered his hand to A'vel. "Shall we?"
