K'deren

K'deren

D'cal leaned against the feeding pen to watch as Aosorath circled over-heading in search of his meal and gave the brownrider next to him a smile. "Good evening, Wingsecond."

"Bluerider," K'deren inclined his head slightly in greeting, as his own Donneth neatly snapped the neck of a herdbeast before commencing his own meal.

"Your lifemate seems to be in good health," D'cal said politely as he watched the brown rip into his dinner.

"He's very happy with himself at the moment," replied K'deren as he watched the brown eating with such evident enjoyment.

"It seems that way," the bluerider smiled. "He's a voracious eater."
Just like Aosorath.

"And I wonder where he gets that from," replied K'deren as Donneth set his sights on a second animal.

"I don't know. But I think Aosorath got it from his sire," D'cal chuckled as his blue swept in and snatched the herdbeast before the brown could make his move.

"That may well be true." Donneth was not in the mood to argue with the younger and smaller blue.

"Is he pretty competetive then?" Aosorath rarely showed his cheeky side, but he did like to show up browns and bronzes with his speed every once in a while.

"He can be, sometimes he thinks he can beat the bronzes at their own game."

"Well, he did at least once," D'cal said with a proud smile. If Donneth hadn't won that gold's flight, he would never have found Aosorath.

}:I would always have found you,:{ the little blue assured him as he vaulted into the sky to look for his next course.

"And if you hadn't been there for the hatching...."

"I can't even imagine what that life would have been anymore."

"They complete your life without even trying," commented K'deren.

D'cal nodded. "Or give you a completely new one that you never imagined before."

"Might I ask what you did before you were searched?"

"Not at all," D'cal said with a far away look, almost as if for the briefest moment he had forgotten. "I was a shipwright at Topaz Sea Hold. When there _was_ a Topaz Sea Hold. My family is there now helping to rebuild it after the storm."

"I see. Have you been back to see them since?"

"Not yet. I've been waiting until we graduated into a fighting wing, which should be just about any day now." It seems like an eternity since he and Aosorath had first bonded. Now they were finally ready to join the ranks. They had only to be tapped on the shoulder...

"It won't be too much longer now."

"I sure hope so. Now that the time has come... The wait is killing me."

"Well I know one thing. All you need to do is your best, and then things will just fall into place."

D'cal nodded. He had worked hard in his Weyrling class, to prove to everyone, and especially the bronzeriders, that a bluerider could amount to a lot. "That I can do."

"And never forget that blueriders can still amount to something.
Wingthirds, searchriders if you and your dragon have the ability."

"I've been thinking about that," D'cal nodded. "I was one of the older weyrlings, so I was naturally put in more of a leadership role. I kind of liked it. I think Wingthird would be a good goal for me." Not to mention it would really show J'darin what he and Aosorath were capable of...

With that kind of determination the young man might just be able to achieve that goal. "If you work at it, you might just get there."

"Well, I best be going. It seems Aosorath has had his fill," D'cal said as he watched his blue launch himself into the sky. He turned to walk away but hesitated a moment to smile over his shoulder at the Wingsecond. "I promise, sir, we'll do your lifemate proud."

"All you need to do is try."
