Cyradis sat still in the council room opposite N'vanik and nodded.
"Alright then, Let's see if this is going to work."

**Dearest, can you please ask Nikornath if his will join Loseth's and
me in the council chamber?**

The bronze relayed the message to his rider. }:The Weyrleader and Weyrwoman
would like to speak to you,:{ he said.

That slightly surprised K'sedel, given that most of his days were spent with
the weyrlings and dealing with all the issues that came with it. From a
homesick child of barely twelve turns who had just sneaked into eligibility
to stand, to an older one approaching the age of twenty, scared they'd age
out of candidacy and never impress, to a a senior weyrling with problems
understanding how to visualise the star stones for that first trip
/between/. Those sort of things rarely came to the attention of the
Weyleader or Weyrwoman.

**Could you inform them I'll be there shortly,** he asked of Nikornath as he
signed the last hide in front of him, putting it on a pile to go with the
class progress reports.

"I hope he's agreeable," N'vanik said. "And that he's willing to train
the younger bronzeriders. The more I think about it, the more I like
it."

She nodded. "Oh and I was also thinking of asking to bring Irrkali in
as Wingthird. I'd like to confirm with Y'gel but I believe Jeath is
fully healed and her experience is very strong. It's time we filled in
some of the holes in the wings, don't you think?"

N'vanik tilted his head. "Irrkali and Jeath... Weyrlingstaff. Older
pair, right? Yeah, she'd be a good choice. Help provide some
experience and stability to the Wing."

K'sedel knocked on the slightly open door of the council chamber. "It's
K'sedel, may I come in?"

"Please do," Cyradis called. "Do you want anything to drink? We had
some refreshments brought in," she smiled as her weyrmate's father
came in.

"A cold drink, would be nice," he said, returning her smile as he came in to
the room.

"Weyleader," he continued by way of greeting. "My duty to you and Loseth."

"Thank you. I hope you and Nikornath are well?" N'vanik said.

Cyradis poured a cup of K'sedel's favorite juice and pushed it toward
him. "We have a favor to ask," she said.

"Oh?" An eyebrow quirked upward in question as he took a seat, and reached
for the juice. "A favour you say?"

Cyradis had a great deal of respect for K'sedel. "Yes sir," she said.
"I'm expecting again and Master Urlene has grounded me. So with
Kapera gone we," she indicated N'vanik and herself, "were hoping you
might be able to help us or rather me out by leading the Queen's wing
for a few months."

"I know it's unconventional to have a bronze leading the Queen's
Wing," N'vanik said. "But we both have a lot of respect for your
experience as a Weyrleader and Wingleader, and we know we can trust
you with this."

The news of a new grandchild was perhaps slightly surprising, but not
unwelcome, thought K'sedel. "Congratulations," he said, almost by reflex as
his mind worked the issue of leading the Queen's wing through. With Kapera
gone to Barrier Lake, and Dessa too young and inexperienced it was obvious
that something would have to be done. "I can only see one potential issue,"
he said after a moment. "Ciara flies in that wing." Traditionally family
members, or weyrmates didn't fly together. "We'd have to talk to her about
potentially transferring elsewhere temporarily."

"Of course," she said then brightened. "I'd intended to ask Irrkali
to step up as your Wingthird in Queens if Jeath is well enough. So
perhaps Ciara could go to the Weyrlingstaff or perhaps Rapids?" She
looked back and forth between K'sedel and N'vanik.

N'vanik tapped a finger on the table. "Hmm . . . I'd like to put her
in Rapids. They could use another steady, experienced rider."

"That, assuming both are willing, would be an excellent solution," K'sedel
said after a moment. "But there could still be holes - for example, who will
handle the current class of Weyrlings, and a fighting win needs a 'second."

"Sh'del can handle the Weyrlings, he's been Weyrlingmaster before,"
N'vanik said. "As for who your 'Second will be, Cyradis has an idea."

"Tell me," K'sedel leaned forward, looking intently at his son's weyrmate.
"Am I going to like it?"

"Well," she smiled her thanks at N'vanik. "We have several up and
coming young bronzeriders who could also benefit from some training as
Windseconds, Z'ku, L'cor, J'ackt; and I'lan come to mind. Though I'm
sure you'd also have some thoughts on them."

"I see," K'sedel realised what the thinking was here- perhaps if these
youngsters could be given some sort of trial in the role, in an a lower
level wing that was actually flying a full fall, with an experienced leader
and 'third to mentor them. "So some sort of trial period for them? Have you
spoke to their wingleaders about it?"

And once again there was all the proof one needed of the sharp mind
behind the former River Bluff Weyrleader's eyes. Cyradis smiled. "Not
Yet. Personally I wanted to make sure you were on board with the idea
before we pitched it to the others."

"If you'd like, you could join me when I speak to the other
Wingleaders," N'vanik said. He was considering how the various leaders
might react. M'gan would at the very least see the benefits to the
Weyr. Some of the others might grumble about losing a young
bronzerider, but it was only temporary, and then they'd have riders
with a bit of actual leadership experience ready to step in when
needed. Rapids certainly needed a 'Second.

"That would make sense," K'sedel could see the thought process behind the
offer. "And we can explain to them what the next few months will look like
at the same time."

"Yes," she smiled. "Does that mean you're willing?"

"Yes, I'll do it, Nikornath would probably never forgive me passing up the
opportunity, although I'm not quite sure what Ciara will say."

"I hope she'll be understanding," N'vanik said. "Thank you for doing
this, K'sedel. We really appreciate it." That was one problem solved,
but it would set off a chain of shuffling riders.
