Ninaine

Ninaine

H'riv had given Gyllie an entire day of space, thinking that maybe she
just needed time to cool off and think. It wasn't as if she were his
only bed partner at Barrier Lake, but she had certainly been the most
fun so far. Not to mention, when they weren't between the furs, she
was actually intelligent enough to have a fun conversation with -
which couldn't be said about all of H'riv's partners.

On the second day, with still no word from the redhead, he decided he
might slip by her weyr, just to see how she was ..... Well, apparently
she was more than fine, since he had seen a bronzerider slipping out
of her door, still putting his shirt back on.

Seeing as how Gyllie was apparently moving right on, H'riv figured he
might as well to... With a glass of wine. He made his way to the
Dining Cavern, retrieved a bottle and a glass, and retreated to a
corner table for a bit of privacy. He might see someone he knew, he
thought as he poured his glass, someone to take his mind off of a
certain redhead.

Ninaine was seated at a small table, her thumb between her lips as she
studied the hides in front of her, speaking silently to herself as she
ran another finger down the numbers to the side, then flipped the hide
over to look at the next. Absently, she reached for her glass, picked
it up to drink and when nothing resulted in her attempt at sipping,
looked into the glass. It was empty and she hadn't realized it. With a
sigh, she set it down, then pulled out a pencil and scribbled a quick
note on the hide.

"Need a refill?" H'riv offered from the next table over, holding up
the bottle of wine.

"Hm?" Ninaine looked up from her hides and saw the other rider
offering a bottle of wine. "Oh, yes, please, if you don't mind
sharing." She rose, taking her glass and held it out. "Thank you."

"Of course," H'riv said, filling the greenrider's glass, "any sort of
paperwork that looks like that," he gestured with his chin in the
direction of her table, "needs some wine to go with it."

"Well, if I drank every time I did hidework, I'd be drinking all day,
" she admitted. "Usually it's juice or water, but tonight I needed
something more." She offered a hand. "I'm Ninaine, Luneth's rider."

"H'riv, brown Uuketh," he said, shaking her hand. "What kind of work
is it?" he asked.

She looked over her shoulder. "The first stack is for Jayzine, the
second larger one is for Kapera and Teseada...weyr business, and the
third smaller one is the weyrling roster." Ninaine looked back at him.
"I stay busy."

H'riv arched an eyebrow. "What exactly do you do for them?"

She shrugged. "Whatever they need, really. I help Jayzine keep track
of supplies and what's in the stores, and when candidates come in, I
help do the chore roster. But I also am Kapera and Teseada's liaison
with Jayzine and help them out with administrative duties, keeping
things organized, that sort of thing. With K'lvin I help out with
weyrlings and their chores throughout the day.``

"That sounds like... a lot." H'riv said. "How do you have time for
anything else with that kind of work load?"

"It's not so hard, really and I like to keep busy. Luneth and I are
retired from Falls, so I have time during the day." She shrugged.

"Oh, gotcha," H'riv said, glancing at her again. She was young enough
that he would not have guessed her to be retired. **Must have an
injured dragon,** he thought. "Is that what brought you to Barrier
Lake?" he asked. He'd been there as one of the early crews helping
with the wiring and electricity, and he didn't recall having seen
Ninaine before.

"Not exactly. I'm from Dragonsfall Weyr and my children's father,
N'call, is here. I only recently arrived a couple of sevendays ago. I
needed to find some sort of way to benefit Barrier Lake, so..." She
shrugged. After T'lat's and J'lor's efforts into her socializing, she
was finally able to do so without much awkwardness. Just pretend
everything was fine and she actually did quite well. "I found
something I'm good at."

"What you are doing is a _skill_," the brownrider said. "I can't
imagine trying to keep up with that many moving parts." H'riv knew
N'call in passing since they had both been there around the same
amount of time. He'd always seen N'call with the other goldrider,
Teseada, though.

"It just takes organization. But it keeps my mind busy and I actually
enjoy it. What wing are you in?" Ninaine took a sip of the wine he'd
shared, then blinked, pulling back to look at the glass, then the
bottle. "Hmm..strong vintage. I might want to keep it at one glass."

"Skybroom," he answered but addressing the bottle of wine. "It's been
a day, this was the needed remedy."

"it must have been a poor day because that is definitely a strong
remedy." She'd never been one to drink when upset herself. She didn't
like lack of inhibitions unless she deliberately chose to loosen them.

"Well, when you get to my height and size, you can handle it," he winked.

She gave an answering smile, but didn't open herself up enough to
laugh. "I truly hope I never reach your size. It's hard enough
keeping myself this size. "

H'riv put a hand to his chest as if in pain. "Ouch, the first shots
have been fired."

"I only meant your size, H'riv. You're quite a bit taller and more
muscular than I am. " Humor began to gleam in her eyes. Her reminded
her a little of L'keri, who'd proven to be quite the good sport.

"That's better," he said with a wink, pride soothed. H'riv finished
off his glass of wine with a sigh. "That'll have to be my last
tonight, anyway, I have morning drills."

Her smile fell just a little, but she bore up well. "Then yes, as
strong as this is, " she held up her glass, it might be a good idea."
She however, was planning to start as late as she could in the dining
hall. N'call was staying with Teseada more often due to her pregnancy
and there were some things that she didn't want to think about. "If
you're done with that bottle, would you mind terribly leaving it?"

"All yours, milady," the brownrider said gallantly, placing the bottle
closer to her. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Ninaine of Luneth."

"Thank you." Ninaine picked up the bottle and lifted it. "It was. I'll
be seeing you, H'riv of Uuketh. Have a good drill tomorrow." Returning
to the table, she refilled her glass and went back to the hides.
