"Good Morning," Jazyzine said as she came in the office door. "We have
received a very nice tithe train from Sunstone. I have the catalogue
right here for review if you wish."

Good morning, Headwoman. You seem cheerful today, how are things
going?" she asked.

"Can you give me the highlights for now?" Kapera added.

"Of course," she nodded and seated herself in front of the Weyrwoman's
desk. "A whole wagon load of River Grains. Quite a few boxes of ripe
citrus. Various vegetables and a promise from the Lord Holder to
increase the number of caravans to monthly instead of bi-monthly.
Looks like some lovely fabrics, maybe traded from the north?"

"Monthly?" Kapera raised an eyebrow. "I'm pleased by that news."

Jayzine nodded. "Perhaps our Lord Holder may be generous to garner
favor? If reports are to be believed, it wouldn't be beyond him to do
something like that. His Hold is becoming wealthy with all the trade
from the Northern continent."

"Monthly trade and citrus boxes is certainly promising, for sure. Does
that make him one of our most generous tithes now? The most?"

Jayzine had brought her notes and flipped a few pages before finding
her answer. "Close," she said. "I think Garnet Valley is edging him
out currently, but that could change if he follows through on the
monthly deliveries."

"I imagine figuring out who's on top is fun. I remember where it felt
like pulling ingrown talons to get enough deliveries..."

Jayzine shrugged. "Hallmaster's Wife," remember. "No matter what our
people thought there were duties to to the Hold and Weyr. Just as the
Weyr has duties to the Hold and Hall. It's a big circle and most
people can only see what's in their own larder. But now we at least
know that Sunstone isn't going to short us at every chance."

"It's valuable you have all that experience from multiple sides of the
equation. It makes you a good Headwoman. The only kind you haven't
been now is a Hall's Headwoman, right? Since you were at River Bluff
and then Emerald Falls."

She added, "I'm glad you were willing to come back here to work with
us, I know I couldn't do it without you." Kapera knew she was lucky to
have Teseada and Jayzine both to work with.

"Thank you ma'am," Jayzine bowed her head. "Yes," she smiled. "But I
grew up at the Vintner Hall and was the Hallmaster's wife there for
many turns. So I'm very familiar with how it works there. Though I'd
never thought of it that way. I do feel I fit best at the Weyr. So I
was very glad when K'ran invited me to come. The work here is very
satisfying." She didn't mention the incipient romance between her and
the bronzerider that had been interrupted by the disaster at River
Bluff and their long separation. She'd learned to let it go and do her
job. "I appreciate your confidence," she nodded again.

"I will never complain about having skilled talent that makes Barrier
Lake better equipped than other Weyrs." Kapera wanted only the best
for her Weyr.

"Speaking of comparing Barrier Lake to other places, the first
Hatching is coming up soon."

"Yes it is," she smiled. "Do you have anything specific in mind? I
know we can put seats in the upper gallery for the hatching. I do
think that as this is the first flight here and with new Weyrleaders
there will be a larger crowd than usual. It should be special."

"I talked with D'hol about it during the clutching, and he said he
didn't have many ideas, but I still wanted to reflect some of his
preferences anyway. He said we should provide a unified front. Seated
together, first dance together, wearing Weyrhold colors, which means
coordinating outfits... I'm not going to complain about getting fitted
for and working on something to truly stand out," the goldrider said,
green eyes sparkling.

"Alright," Jayzine nodded. "I have plenty of ideas for the menu. I'll
draw up a sample with some options. Though we don't have any existing
stock of decorations I'm pretty sure we can do something simple for
that. I'm happy to contact Master Jayala to put together some
entertainment for the Hatching feast.. With that, all I'll need from
you is your special guest list."

"The dignitaries list? Or any personal guests outside of that?"

Jayzine nodded. "The dignitaries I can handle, but if you have any
other guests you wish accommodated we have a limited capacity for now
and I'll need to make arrangements for some of them at Garnet Valley."

Kapera thought for a moment, which dragged out longer. Then she
sighed, and picked up her klah, and said, "Does it sound bad I can't
think of anyone I personally want to be here who I'm close to? My few
close friends are riders and can bring themselves, if they're not
stationed here, but there's no one else I can think to invite."

"Very Well then," Jayzine pulled her notes back together. "Anything else?"

She shook her head and gave the Headwoman a sincere smile. "I can't
think of anything else immediately. I trust you to come up with
something brilliant and to keep me informed as you always do."

"Of course Ma'am," she smiled as she rose. "I'll have a sample menu to
you this afternoon."
