Description: F'lin flies over the former River Bluff Weyr territory and considers the new Weyr
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 10, day 26 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya, K'ran
A dragon appeared in the sky. His wings were dark against the stars as he circled far above the ruins of River Bluff Weyr. The damage to the Weyr was invisible from this high up and in the dark. The moons' light glinted off the cliff face and sparked against the waves in the bay.
**Home,** F'lin thought as he gazed down on it. Somewhere beneath the rock was Lenala and Vilarth and their clutch of eggs, and others too. Drudges and dragonriders alike. Now the Weyr was mostly abandoned save for a few hardy souls who were digging through the rubble to see what they could salvage, and a few who stood vigil over the dead.
River Bluff was where his grandmother had ruled as Weyrwoman and where he'd Stood and Impressed Seneth. Where he'd escaped from Topaz Seahold, only to run headlong into another disaster. He turned his gaze over the black of the land that spread behind the Weyr. In his mind's eye he saw fields and rivers and cots and lush, green forests. And beyond that, the rolling hills and valleys that River Bluff guarded from Thread.
The Weyr was gone, but this was still his home. His land. Seneth tipped his bronze wings and they started soaring down the coastline, following a familiar flight path over River Bluff territory. Lanniya had said that the Conclave wanted to open a new Weyr, here. Somewhere. The sweepriders were already out looking for a suitable place. F'lin could think of a few places to explore depending on how they wanted to carve up the territory, but ultimately this land, this territory, whatever they decided-- it would be his.
F'lin wondered if K'ran would be allowed to take Rapids to the new Weyr. His wingriders deserved a fresh start and somewhere to stretch their wings. And if they did go, how many of their wingriders would go with them? And what if K'ran or the Conclave decided to keep Rapids at Dolphin Cove…?
}:We will go,:{ Seneth said. }:This is our place.:{
**Even if we transfer without Rapids and don't get to bring our knots with us?** F'lin asked. If they transferred without the Wing, the chances of him keeping his rank were slim. He knew what others saw when they looked at him: a too-young bronzerider with too little experience who'd benefited from his grandmother's rank as Weyrwoman. And maybe they'd been right, once upon a time. But not anymore.
}:We will lead,:{ Seneth said confidently. }:This is what we are meant to do.:{
His rider grinned into the wind. **You're right about that.** Even if he transferred as a wingrider, he knew that it wouldn't take long for him to find a new position. He was smart and learned fast. He'd do what he had to do to make River Bluff -- the new River Bluff -- his.
