----------

Dorana was humming as she wheeled the cart with the boxes of supplies
the Headwoman had asked her to deliver to the Infirmary. It was quite
late, and there weren't very many people about. She could hear the
voice of a healer speaking from one of the examination rooms, and
didn't want to bother them. She'd just wait till they came out to get
them to check what she'd brought.

While she waited, she noticed light coming from one of office doors.
Someone had left their lights on when they left for the evening.
People were always doing that and the drudges always turned them off
so the bulbs wouldn't die out so soon and need to be replaced. She made
her way over to the office door, only realizing that it should have
been locked when the door opened easily. The healers always kept their
offices locked, because of patient records and so on, she knew.

She soon discovered the reason for the unlocked door, however. A small
woman with light brown hair was at the desk, illuminated by soft glow
light.

"I'm sorry, healer Olwinna," Dorana said. "I didn't think you'd still
be here. I saw the light and came to turn it off," she trailed off,
feeling a bit foolish.

"Oh," Olwinna was bit startlet, she had been so deeply concentrating
to her work. She needed to get her patient records up to date, so she
was working late. "I'm just doing the hidework before it gets ahead of
me." She flashed her a smile. "Don't worry, I'll turn them off when I leave."

"Of course, healer." She started to back out of the door again, but
then stopped. "Pardon me, but would you have a few moments to check in
these supplies I've brought? There's another healer back in one of the
examination rooms, I think, but I'm not sure what they're doing. I
don't want to interrupt someone with a patient, and I can wait if
you're too busy, of course." She really hoped the healer would be
willing. Once she got these supplies taken care of, she'd be free to
relax for the evening.

"Of coures, a little break could do me good," Olwinna replied. She
stretched and then turned over the hides she was working with, so no
one would accidentaly read them.

Dorana smiled, pleased and said, "Thank you, healer. It's not a big
load, but the Headwoman asked me to make sure the invoice was checked
and signed. Apparently, some of it is important." She handed over the
clip-board with the list on it. "The cart is just out here."

"You can just call me Olwinna, there's no need to be so formal,"
Olwinna asked and accepted the list.

Dorana smiled agreeably, "Olwinna then. I'm Dorana, if you have need
of me." It was always better to be formal with people when on duty,
this was both something she'd learned since beginning her job at the
Weyr after she aged out of Candidacy and something she had been taught
by her mother when she was a child. Though, of course her mother's
lessons hadn't had the same context at all. However, if someone asked
her to use their name, she wasn't going to argue.

"Dorana," Olwinna nodded. Then she looked the list and the cart. "So,
what you got there?"

Dorana pulled out a container from the cart and read the hand-printed
label, "Says gauze bandages. There are four of these boxes." She
paused to give Olwinna a chance to check the invoice for the bandages
before moving onto the next item.

"Check," Olwinna marked it down.

Dorana nodded and lifted out another container, smaller, yet also a
little heavier, than the first. "This one says vials. There are
two of these boxes."

"Okay," Olwinna checked it form list. "Three boxes of syringes is next."

She shifted a few containers until she found the boxes of syringes,
however, there were only two. "Three?" She asked, making sure she
heard the number correctly even as she dug around, looking for the
third box. "Nevermind," she added a moment later. "Found the third
one, it had gotten separated from the other two." She held up all
three boxes to show Olwinna they were all there.

"Careful with those, they're fragile," Olwinna warned while she ticked
them off from the list.

Dorana nodded and began to set all three boxes carefully back in the
cart. She hesitated a moment, then asked, "Did you want to check them,
since they're glass?"

Olwinna shook her head, "You go ahead with it," she trusted the girl's
ability to handle fragile things.

Nodding, she opened each box and lightly touched each delicate
syringe, looking to see if any had been chipped or cracked in
transport. They were packed carefully, however, and none of them were
damaged. "They look fine," she set the boxes back in the cart.
"There's just one more small box," she picked it up and read the label
on the side, "Needles. To go with the syringes, I guess?"

"Naturally," Olwinna flashed an amused smile.

Dorana grinned back and then put the box back into the cart. "That's
it in here. Is that everything on the invoice?"

"Look's like it," Olwinna followed the rows with her finger. "Wait,
there's supposed to be pack of instruments from smithcraft hall.
Spatulas, scalpels, stuff like that."

Dorana frowned and began removing boxes from the cart again, one at a
time, this time setting them down on the floor by her feet after
checking the labels. "No. There's no more boxes. I wonder if it got
left off the cart? It might still be in the supply room. If you'll
sign the invoice, but circle the missing item, I'll take it back down
and see if I can find your missing instruments." Hopefully it would be
there. Though, if it was, she was going to have words with whoever
loaded this cart.

"That's fine by me," Olwinna replied and did as Dorana suggested.
"I do hope you find it, otherwise the Weyrhealer is going to be less
than happy."

Dorana took back the invoice with the healer's signature and circled
item, "I hope so too. I'm sure it was just left off though." She began
loading the boxes back into the cart, "I can put these away in your
storage room, or just leave this here if you'd rather have an
apprentice do that later? Then I'll go see if I can't find the missing
box."

"Leave them for apprentices. That's we have them for, to do the work,"
Olwinna replied with mischievous grin.

Dorana returned the grin, "As you wish. I'll just push this here out
of the way." She moved the cart to an empty spot along the wall.
"Thank you for helping get this checked in. I'll bring up the missing
box as soon as I find it, or let the Headwoman know a new set needs to
be ordered for you."

Olwinna nodded. "You're welcome," she replied, debating with herself
if she should return to her hidework or just go home and do it
tomorrow.
